In fulfilling the role of a high school science educator, a teacher candidate must demonstrate safe laboratory practices in the classroom and establish level-appropriate laboratory procedures and safety rules for students to follow.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
In order to accomplish this important mission, the student teacher mustModel safe, responsible behavior when performing chemical demonstrations and conducting experiments.Select level-appropriate investigations that minimize health and safety risks to students.Identify safety rules and protocols that apply to the specific school setting and articulate those rules and protocols to students at the beginning of the school year.Consistently enforce safety rules and protocols.

Cooperating Teacher
Discuss lab safety with your cooperating teacher. Identify the school ’s laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
Explore the laboratory facilities. Make special note of the lab’s lay-out, chemical storeroom, and safety equipment.
