Slide 1 (background info)1) Dinaka - The band's early music was an

upbeat blend of southern rock and blues influences but the band has gradually expanded their sound to include a variety of genres and a more alternative rock or arena rock sound.

2) Sam -Kings of Leon achieved initial success in the United Kingdom with nine Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards in 2008, and all three of the band's albums at the time peaking in the top five of the UK Albums Chart. Their third album Because of the Times also reached the #1 spot.

3) Hassan - After the release of Only by the Night in September 2008 they finally achieved chart success in their native United States. The singles "Sex on Fire", "Use Somebody" and "Notion" all peaked at #1 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks. The album itself was their first ever platinum-selling album in the United States.

• Sam - They have incorporated different rhythms and styles throughout with plenty of tempo changes, such as the screeching guitar licks and foot stomping beats.

• Dinaka - They were a real explosion of pure rock 'n' roll energy and their single “sex on fire” has been praised for the blend of alternative rock and southern rock that has appealed to many different social tribes, including the rockers and punks.

• Hassan - “All the commotion, the kiddie like play, Has people talking, talking”This part may mean they are being flirtatious and people are suspecting the couple is up to no good. There is obviously an affair sparking.

• Dinaka - "I know they're watching, They're watching"

In my opinion, I think this line is about God or angels watching and looking over the two people having sex and he's worried because the sex they're having is forbidden, being that they're not married.

Slide 4 (Mise en Scene)

• Sam – (Colour) The colour used in the kings of Leon sex on fire video is predominately dark, the video uses the dark lighting to help create a sense of danger and ties in with their rock band image.

• Dinaka - The video also uses a green tinge throughout, this helps to reinforce the chaotic and confusing sense in the video.

• Hassan - The props used in the video differ throughout the song, the most obvious props in the video is the bands equipment but there are also more subtle ones used that tie in with the lyrics of the song.

• Sam - Some of the band members wear vest like tops which ties in with the homoerotic nature of the video, it also links to their rock star image and shows how they are different and do not conform to normal society

• Dinaka - The song gives the audience the impression that the main singer is losing his mind, in the book the audience sees’ pages being ripped out of a book symbolising him losing his memory and promotes a feeling of anarchy which is stereotyped to rock bands.

• Hassan - The costumes the band members wear tie in with the homoerotic style, homoerotic means the video attracts people of the same sex as well as the opposite sex.

Slide 5 (Camera angles)• Dinaka - As the video progresses we start

to see more midshots of the band especially as it is leading up to the audience actually seeing them play.

• Hassan - As the band are playing the shot of the instruments changes from a midshot to an extreme close up of the main singers face showing his expressions and also that the song is going to be greatly centred around him.

Slide 5 (camera angles)

• Sam - The camera focuses on the ripped paper blowing on the floor, the paper from the book has been ripped out by the fellow band member this showed anarchy and it creates a chaotic feeling.

• Dinaka - The facial expressions seen within the video match the lyrics of the song, one example of this is when the camera performs a close up of the main singer and as he is singing ‘I could just taste it, taste it’ he is licking is lips.

Slide 6 (Editing)

Dinaka - Slow motion zoom shots which slowly build up to the when the beats of the drum kicks in and the singing.

Hassan - The slow motion is used to emphasize on the intensity of the music and the events that are taking place.

Sam – for example there is a close up on the mans eye and slow motion is used to show the eye rolling around, maybe showing how the man is being consumed darkness or he is simply dying

Hassan – there are cut shots that match the beats of the drum, therefore making the video and song seem as one; they're interlinked with each other. Also there are changes in the sound levels that is used for effect and to reflect on the intensity of mans agony and pain.

Slide 6 (Editing)

• Sam - Editing of the video matches and corresponds to the lyrics and sound of the song, for example in the lyrics is says, “lay where your laying, don’t make a sound,”

• Dinaka - the scene cuts to a man lying on a bed and we see him suffering, therefore, the lyrics match what we see on the scene and the editing is used effectively to do this.

• Sam - It seems to have spiritual themes of someone performing an exorcism or some sort of ritual on a man; the man seems to have been overcome or consumed by darkness.

• Hassan - We see a black smoke coming out the mans mouth near to the end, which represents his release from the pain and agony he was in.

Dinaka - This music video is a mix of narrative and performance, the narrative of the ritual or exorcism and the performance of the men playing guitars, drums and singing the song.

Hassan - The water has a lot of ripples in it, which suggests a loud noise and lots of vibrations; reflecting on the intensity of the sex and music.

Sam - The other band members are then shown, they appear to be watching the lead singer when he is lying down they seem to be discussing something about him and reading books (ceremony). This links in with the line "lay where you’re laying" and "I know they're watching".

Slide 7 (Narrative)

The lead singer seems to be panicking when he is lying down and doesn't seem to be able to get up. This could suggest that he has been drugged or at least had something done to him. Then when it goes to the chorus, the band are all together playing their instruments and singing. Clips of the band playing together keep appearing after this chorus.

The video has a lot of performance from the band in it and some narrative in it. The video is shot with in an old run down wooden building. The video starts with what appears to be water with a light shining on it. Then it goes to the singer lying down and appears to look lost and confused. It then shows some leaves being blown in the wind and a big bowl of water.

When the singer is lying down he shows a lot of panic and looks very paranoid, this again could suggest that he has had some sort of drug. It then shows what he could be seeing, when it shows one of the band members leaning down and looking at what seems to be the singer. This is because the camera angle is looking up and is in the same angle as we would be, if we were laying down looking up. The image is a bit blurred which yet again could suggest that the singer has taken some sort of drug.

• The singer is then forced down when he tries to get up, it shows a struggle between the singer and the band members and this suggests that the singer is there against his own will. The video then shows clips of the band playing together in one of the rooms in the building, then quickly flicks to a curtain closing with mannequins behind it, then it shows a living chicken, it then shows one of the band members eating a chicken leg and then it shows the lead singer laying down singing.

It continues to do this until the lead singer jolts up quickly and then opens his mouth, when he does this black smoke comes out and he then appears to not look as paranoid or as panicked as before. Then the final few clips show the band member who ate the chicken cleaning his mouth with a tissue; it shows one of the band members being under water which is gushing down and then finally a clip of the band playing together.
