By 2020 the Government would like all schools to
be models of sustainability.....
But what on
EARTH does that mean?!
Sustainability is a
big word.....“development that meets the needs of
the present without compromising the ability
of future generations to meet their own
needs”
“a global society founded on respect
for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of
peace”
“the human desire to live in harmony with nature and one-another ”
“the capacity to endure”
“an attempt to provide the best outcomes for human and natural
environments both now and into the indefinite future”
“the ability to continue/maintain into the future”
“the ability to continue without lessening, to nourish, to allow to
flourish”
“the desire to maintain and improve the economic, environmental and social
characteristics of an area so its community can continue to lead healthy,
productive, enjoyable lives there”
“improving our lives without continually increasing the amount of energy and
material goods that we consume”
Patrick Okoth, Year 9Abraham Moss High School, Manchester
“Sustainability is simply finding ways to
take care and preserve the future oflife on Earth,
where CARE is the main word.
