Introduction – Edward said

•Edward said was born 1st November , 1935, died in25th September, 2003.

•He was western Philosopher of 20th Century.

• Edward said was a Professor of literature at Columbia University.

•He was famous for his book “Orientalism”.

•He Generally deals with post- colonialism, Postmodernism, Occidentalism and Orientalism.

About the book of “Orientalism”• Orientalism is book written by Edward said.• This book is published in 1978.• In this is Properly said about the term of “Orientalism”.• The book is redefined the term “Orientalism” to

meaning a constellation of false assumption underlying western attitudes toward the Middle East.

• This book in Edward presenting to own idea about the “Orientalism” term.

• The “Orientalism “ is a deeply connected to “Cultural study”, “Colonialism “ , and “Post – colonialism”.

Edward said by the Definition of Orientalism

• Edward said’s Orientalism can be a critical tool to examine the validity of all the literature on the East written by the westerns. Influenced by the imperialism and colonialism of the 19th century, western people became interested in the natives and the cultures of western colonies.

Definition of Orientalism

• In the simple means of Orientalism: Style ,Artifacts, or traits considered characteristic of the peoples and cultures of Asia.

• “A way of coming to terms with the Orient that is based on the Orient’s special place in European western experience.”

Meaning of “ Orient “

• The term “Orient” is derived from the Latin

word “Oriens’ meaning “East”.

The country of the east especially East Asia.

The Orients almost a European invention, had been since antiquity a place of romance, exotic beings, hunting memories and Landscapes, remarkable experience.

• This is Cartoon series of ‘ Aladdin ‘ is famous by “Disney Land”. • In this cartoon is related to Arabian culture. Its a very famous

character of Aladdin. • That series had faced criticism for wrong and unjust portrayal

of the Arab people and world.• The western culture portrayed to the Arabian culture is a poor

and Uncivilized. They are prove that their culture is a more civilized.

• Even this series title song is also criticised.• So this western cultures dominated to the Asian culture and

many cultures.
