CONCEPT: Selffulfilling prophecy
I experienced the Selffulfilling prophecy concept during my studies in secondary school. During Form 4, I
was allocated to the fifth class in science stream which had a total of six science stream class for my batch. It
is not a surprise to me at first once I had been allocated in that particular class because my PMR result in not
good enough when compare with others. I am bad in memorising things during that time and that is the
reason why i hate Biology and History Subject. I learnt things without much stress and pressure in that class
during that time because my classmates are same standard with me. My results obtained by me is
acceptable for my class's standard. I obtained a marginal pass grade for History and Biology Subject for the
final examination in Form 4. During Form 5, i was allocated to the third class in my batch. I was surprised by
knowing that i had been allocated to third class because of Mr.Wong’s acknowledgement to the person
incharged in student arrangement. My ability is not up to the standard of those students in third class.
Mr.Wong, my history teacher in Form 5 encouraged me to study hard to get an A for History Subject in the
presence of other classmates. He said that I am smart and capable to get an A for History Subject if I
changed the attitude for that subject. Before that, i was getting a marginal pass grade for my History Subject.
Mr. Wong motivated me personally so that i can get good result in my examination. After i had been
allocated in the third class, I studied even harder than Form 4 because I had to upgrade myself to the
standard of the class which I was in. I studied with stress and pressure in that class because all of my
classmates are genius and they are very smart. Under that circumstances of encouraging me to study
harder, I obtained flying colours in my SPM examination. I behaved in different way when i am at different
condition of studies which are more stressful and been motivated.
Selffulfilling prophecy concept said that we can cause a belief to become real by behaving in a certain
way to achieve that belief. Selffulfilling prophecy can lead to positive or negative behaviors in certain
situation. In a better class and motivation, I engaged myself by studied harder so that I can obtain flying
colours in my SPM examination. I obtained A for my History Subject in SPM that because of Mr.Wong’s
motivation on me.

CONCEPT: Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning happened everywhere in our daily life. During the studies from kindergarten until
secondary school, different type of reinforcement applied in different situation to enhance a person's
behavior. During kindergarten, when I am behaving a good attitude, the kindergarten teacher will give me
some awards such as sweets and snacks. I most likely want to behave in the same way or even better so
that I can get the sweets and snacks from the teachers. Sweets and snacks act as a motivation for me to
behave in good attitude or behaviour. When I grows mature, snacks and sweets that act as a token of
motivation may not longer apply to me. I achieved flying colours in my SPM examination, the token of
motivation that I received is totally different with kindergarten. My achievement had acknowledged by
displaying my name on newspapers and receiving scholarship. After receiving scholarship, I decided to study
harder in my course so that I can obtain a bigger amount of scholarship for my degree programme and
obtain a good results which will benefit myself in my future career.
Operant Conditioning concept said that by using reinforcement or punishment can change a person's
particular behaviour. We most likely to behave better if we will be given a awards or acknowledgement from
others.

CONCEPT: Observational Learning
Today, I had decided to cook for my dinner tonight. This is the first time i cook myself at Selangor without
any guidance from my mother. I decided to cook some vegetable, scrambled egg with onion and sausage,
fried nuggets and fried chicken wing for my dinner. After i bought the ingredients, i washed the vegetables,
cut the garlic and onions and struck the eggs like how my mother did in the past. I followed the way how she
prepared the ingredient before started cooking the foods. Before i came to study at Selangor, i was standing
beside my mother and watching how she prepared and cooked the food for our family everyday when i am
free. I turned on the stove and started cooking like the way my mother cooked in the past. I added too much
seasoning for my dishes and caused the dishes became too salty. In the past when my mother was ready to
put the seasoning, I ran away from kitchen to avoid calling from my mother to carry the dishes to the dining
table. I done my cooking without any calling for the help to my mother and I had to tuck in the salty dishes for
my dinner because it is the first cook. The lesson I learnt from this situation is that not to put too much
seasonings if the portion is small, add appropriate seasoning and taste before served.
Observational Learning concept applied in this situation because i observed how my mother act or behave
in that situation and i most likely to learn and behave the way how she act in the situation when i encounter
that situation.

CONCEPT: CORFing
During my first semester of my foundation studies, I met a person who impressed me so hard for his
attitude. He is one of the group members which I had for the first assignment for three modules. During that
time, he always came late for meeting, went back earlier or even absent for the meeting. He is irresponsible
for the works given to him. On the presentation day, he didn't show up for the group work and he told us that
he had to go back to his hometown for a certain reason. For the another assignment, he always came late or
go back earlier and affected our practise progress because everyone is related to each other in the group for
that particular assignment. On the day of presentation, he showed up in the last minutes when everyone in
the group is so nervous about the presentation and he even didn’t answer the call from us. Besides that, that
person is also a late comer for the classes everyday. Due to his irresponsible and his attitude, my other
group members and I are very aware about this person. We tried not to be the same group with that person
so that he won't affect our progress and the result of the assignments. When comes to group work, my
friends and I formed our group as fast as possible and to the maximum number of group members so that
that person will not be assigned to our group as the group is full. We even had the same person as our group
members for most of the assignments to avoid that person getting involve with us.
Cutting Off Reflective Failure(CORFing) concept said that we avoid ourself involving with the person who
had failed or behaved badly in certain situation. In this situation, I had to avoid to be the same group with that
person so that he won't affect my progress of my assignments. That person had been listed into the blocking
list of members who i don't want to be as a group member.

CONCEPT: Fearbased appeals message
At the end of March, I had been informed by the owner of my rented room that a new housemate will be
moved in during April. The owner informed me that he is a bad smoker and ask for the understanding of the
limited number of rooms in the apartment. On 4 of April, that person moved in my unit and I saw he had a
collection of the cigarette boxes in his room. On 10 of April, after I freshen up myself, I saw a cigarette box
on the table in the living room. Because of curiosity, i decided to had a look of the design of the cigarette
box. The photo on the cigarette box had shocked me for a few seconds. The photo showed the
consequences of smoking which will darken the lung and cause various type of cancer. After I viewed the
cigarette box, I strongly decided not to smoke in my life so that I can obtain a healthy life and not
disappointed by my lovely family and friends. I was afraid of getting the cancer if I smoke in my life which will
suffer the rest of my life. I am very thankful that I am not a smoker.
Fearbased appeals message concept said that a negative valence message is applied in certain situation
so that a specific action can be reduced or prevented. In this situation, a negative message that published on
the cigarette box will attempt to persuade the public not to smoke or stop smoking after viewing the intended
message.
