Community needs

eg. LKH needs volunteers to bring old folks to the park

The facilities in the school, such as the classrooms and their sports room, needs to be mended. Walls and ceilings are to be painted. Sports room needs new equipments for the students to play with. The students need to be taught useful skills that are applicable in their lives.

Emotional & Practical needs- To show love and care for them - Being like an older sibling to the students- Teach the skills such as, safety, doing household chores

etc.- Instill greater joy in them through interaction with the

students.- Educating on the importance of a good education in

today’s society.

Project Idea

Elaborate on CIP plan

Preparation :

Training/Preparation :- Inform the team members of the DOs & DON’Ts during

the execution of the project.- Inform students of possible mistakes, and what to

definitely look out for. (e.g. Students should not be holding any sharp objects that may injure others.)

Expectations :- All members are to be at their best behaviour, as we are

all ambassadors of SRJC.- All members should take part in the CIP project. No

slacking is allowed!!!

Execution :

1. Interaction with the students : - Half of the team members are to keep the children

busy, while the other half of the team is in charge of improving the condition of the rooms.

- Games :i. The students will be separated into groups. There

will be 4 stations with 4 different games. (Refer to last page for details on games.)

ii. Team members will be allocated to each station, and the rest will be leaders for the groups of primary school students.

iii. It will be in a rotation format. Each group will get to play each game at least once.

- Skit :i. All team members who is involved in the

interaction with the kids, will be involved in the skit.

ii. Team members, and the primary school students, will be acting out a short story. (eg. The Boy Who Cried Wolf / The Ugly Duckling)

iii. The kids and the facilitators will be given paper plates, markers, crayons and other arts stuff to make the props before they act out the skit.

iv. The primary school students will be involved too. (e.g. They can be the sheep in The Boy Who Cried Wolf, pretending to run away when the Wolf appears. )

v. This is to teach students, valuable lessons and values from these stories.

vi. For example, The Boy Who Cried Wolf teaches them about the importance of honesty, and to never tell lies.

2. Painting and mending of the school facilities : - Only half of the team will be involved in this project,

and will be split into the painting classroom and improving sports room group.

Painting classrooms

• We will paint the classrooms using a different paint color for each. The varieties of colors selected are

known to have calming effects to ensure effective learning. They are light blue, purple, green, yellow, the number of colors will depend on the number of classrooms we are to paint.

• We will prepare stencils made from cardboard. The stencils will be of different shapes, such as fishes, birds, trees or other simple shapes.

Improving Sports room• First we will give the sports room a new coat of

paint. • Since we cannot really bring physical

equipment there, we will bring simple sports equipment like inflatable Basketball, soccer ball, volleyball, rugby ball, pingpong and bat, one pairs of badminton rackets etc.

• We will also bring hooks, basket to store the simple sports equipment.

• A write up will be done, to be pasted on the walls to tell the people how to keep up with good maintenance of these equipment.

• Layout of the sports room will also be drawn to effectively manage the space.

Learning objective(for youth)

eg. Learn about how to interact with old folks, how take care of old folks by proper handling of wheelchairs etc.

- Learn how to educate the young and less fortunate.- Display what we have learnt in school. (ASPIRE Values

& HABITS) For example ;a) Handle Your Impulsivity – Even though the students

may run around and gets irritating, be calm and handle things appropriately.

b) Active – Participate in the project actively. Everybody will have a part to play.

- For those who have not done any painting of rooms, this will be a new experience.

Service objective(for community)

eg. Meet the social-emotional needs of old folks by providing company, meet the physical needs of old folks by bringing them out to the parks for exercise / fresh air

- Instill a greater joy in them, with the company of older peers.

- For some, provide the love and care from an older sibling.

- Provide help for their academic needs, through making their studying facilities better.

- Educate the students with useful skills.

Game Instructions Logistics1. Balloon Wars

(1-Team Game)• Balloons will be tied to each

of the students’ leg.• The objective of the game

is to burst the other students’ balloon, while protecting their own balloons.

• The last person with the balloon still intact will be the winner.

• Balloons• Rubber Bands

2. Obstacle Course(2-Team Game)

• 2 teams going against each other.

• The will be a total of 5 obstacles.

• There will be 5 ping pong balls inside the tray, which is partially filled with water. The player has to blow one ball out of the tray, using only his or her mouth.

• You will be given a plastic spoon. Place the spoon in your mouth and use it to transport the ping pong ball which you have blown out of the tray, to the next obstacle.

• Drop the ping pong ball to the floor, and use only your feet, to dribble it past cones, until you reach the next obstacle.

• Place the ping pong ball in between your feet, and hop past obstacles, until you reach the next obstacle.

• There will be a pole at this obstacle. You are to spin around the pole 5 times, with your head place on the tip of the

pole. Then, Try to throw the ping pong ball, back into the tray at the 1st

obstacle.• Once the person before you

obstacle, the next person can proceed with the first obstacle.

• At any point of time if any of the players flattens or spoils the ping pong ball, he or she has to go back in line and restart all over again.

• The first team to complete the course will be the winner.

3. Musical Dots(1-Team Game)

• This game is similar to musical chairs, but dots are used instead of chairs, to reduce the risk of students falling off the chairs.

• A poster board with big circles of different colours will be placed on the floor.

• The number of dots on the board, has to be one less than the number of students playing.

• Play the music, and when the music stops, students are to hop onto a dot.

• The student without a dot, will be eliminated.

• Game will continue until only one student is left.

• Coloured papers or cardboard for the circles.

• Blu-tack to paste the circles.

• Music player.

4. Turn Over A New Leaf

(2-Team Game)

• 2 groups will go against each other.

• Each group will be given a sheet of canvas and every group member has to step within the sheet.

• Once game master starts the game, the group has to flip the sheet over, without stepping out of the canvas
