GATEWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

20 Church Street

New Haven, CT 06510

In 1992, The Connecticut State Legislature merged South Central Community College

(SCCC) with Greater New Haven State Technical College (GNHSTC): the merged institution

is named Gateway Community-Technical College (GCTC), effective January 1, 1993.

Beginning Spring 1993, courses taken at either campus will be reflected in the same semester,

although academic policies were not yet combined. A total cumulative average from both

institutions is reflected prior to Fall 1994. Effective Fall 1994, transcripts reflect the merger of

academic policies for the merged institution.

Effective July 2000, the Board of Trustees of Community-Technical Colleges authorized the

change of name from Gateway Community-Technical College to Gateway Community

College (GCC).

CONDITIONS FOR RELEASE OF TRANSCRIPTS

This transcript has been forwarded to you at the request of the student with the understanding

that it will not be released to other parties. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of

1974 prohibits release of this information without the student's written consent.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS

Transcripts of credits earned at GCC are prepared by this Office in accordance with the

policies of the New England Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.

Transcripts are sent only upon the written request or consent of the student. GCC transcripts

show only credit hours earned at other institutions, the official transcripts from those

institutions have become a part of the student's permanent record in the student's file. GCC

does not make copies of the other institution's transcripts.

Official transcripts bear the signature of the Registrar which is white with a blue

background. A raised embossed seal is not required. A black on white or a color copy

should not be accepted.

CREDIT

Before the Fall 1989 the unit of credit at GNHSTC was a quarter hour. Each quarter hour

represents one class period of fifty (50) minutes in length each week for eleven weeks, or the

equivalent. Laboratory or field courses required a minimum of two or three class periods per

week for each hour of credit. Starting with the Fall 1989 the unit of Credit at GNHSTC was

converted to a semester

hour of credit, which is consistent with SCCC and now GCC. Each semester hour represents

one class period of fifty (50) minutes in length each week for fifteen weeks, or the equivalent.

Laboratory or field courses require a minimum of two class periods per week for each hour of

credit. Note: Courses taken on a quarter hour system will be converted to semester hours to

determine graduation eligibility.

GRADES

Passing grades in order of rank are: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-. Credit is earned

with a P (Pass). P grades are not calculated in the GPA. Developmental course grades,

effective Fall 2004 semester, are signified by a (#) sign after the grade. They do not count in

the GPA nor do the courses count toward graduation. M grade (Maintaining progress) for

Developmental courses only. Failing grades are F (Failure), WF (Withdrew Failing-not used

after Spring 1985). Other grades are Au (Audit), I (Incomplete), N (No grade). R (No grade

received from instructor). W (Withdrew). An E by a grade indicates a repeated course: please

refer to the College Catalog for details of the repeat policy. An asterisk (*) or a carat (^) by a

grade indicates this student has been approved for the Fresh Start option and these grades are

not included in the GPA: please refer to the College Catalog for details on the Fresh Start

Policy.

QUALITY POINTS

Quality points are assigned the following weighted point values per credit hour: A, 4.0; A-,

3.7; B+, 3.3; B, 3.0; B-, 2.7; C+, 2.3; C, 2.0; C-, 1.7; D+, 1.3; D, 1.0; D-, 0.7; F, WF, or any

Neutral grades, no points per credit hour. Quality points are computed by multiplying the

weighted point value by the number of credits. Grades of AU, N, P, R, W, and I are not

calculated in the quality point ratio. Please note that the overall quality point ratio for students

who registered for quarter and semester courses will be cumulative.

COURSE LEVEL

All courses at Gateway Community College are lower division level.
