DESCRIPTION
Présentation de Juliane Sauer (Eurosearch Office Switzerland) présentée lors du colloque infoclio.ch à Berne, le 16 septembre 2010. This presentation will give an overview on the basic features of European Research Infrastructures as part of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union for the funding of research, FP7. The talk will give insight in the importance and structure of Research Infrastructures. Funding mechanisms and possibilities for (Swiss) researchers to gain access to the infrastructures, in particular for the Social Sciences and Humanities, will be covered as well.

3fold Structure I3 (and e-infrastructures)
Joint Research Activities- E.g. integration of installations and infrastructures into virtual facilities, innovative solutions for data collection, management and annotation;- E.g. innovative solutions for communication network
Transnational Access- provide trans-national access to researchers/research teams- should be implemented in a coordinated way- The research team, or its majority, must come from countries other than where the operator of the infrastructure is established
Networking Activities - e.g. joint management and pooling of distributed resources;- e.g. strengthening of virtual research communities;
- e.g. development of common standards, protocols and interoperability, benchmarking;
- e.g. development and maintenance of common databases for the purpose of networking and management of the users and infrastructures- e.g. spreading of good practices, consultancy and training courses to new users- etc.

Definition of E-Infrastructures
Virtual Research Environment with easy access for scientific community all over the word
Foster the emergence of new working methods Strengthening of more intense collaboration between research centres and their researchers in 'virtual research communities'
Further development and evolution of high-capacity and high-performance communication (GÉANT) and grid empowered infrastructures
