Its Good To Talk - Evaluation
Positive Feedback
We received a number of positive comments about our documentary ‘Can You Talk?’ all of which I will include in this evaluation. Most with photographic evidence. The only point I can not back up with photographic evidence is the positive comment we received about our editing. Our editing was good as you can’t hear the questions and the answers the interviewees gave were generally good answers and they were also quick.
Positive Feedback
The main positive feedback was about the fact we used a variety of shots during the interview and also the fact that our interviewees alternated sides of the frame. This kept the interview interesting.
Postive Feedback
Another piece of postive feedback we received was about the framing of Mel’s interview. The framing is good in this interview as it follows the rule of thirds.
Postive Feedback
Another piece of postive feedback that we received was about the fact that the graphics we created for the titles were consistent throughout the documentary. They are also good as they aren’t obtrusive and are a clear simple font.
Negative Feedback
The first constructive criticism we received was about our title graphics. They were said to need to be a different colour, to be a bit smaller and the titles on Mel’s interview needed work as where they are placed does not work at all as it can not be seen properly because of the background. The titles could also be a bit more relevant to the topic.
Negative Feedback
Another piece of constructive criticism we received was about the framing of Nicole’s and mine interview as they both needed slight tweaks. My interview needed to be zoomed in a little more and Nicole’s framing isn‘t good as it doesn’t follow the rule of thirds.
Negative Feedback
Another piece of constructive criticism we received was about the mise-en-scene of our interviews. The background we used is boring and has no relevance to mobile phones which is the topic of our documentary.
Negative Feedback
The cutaways we used were not always relevant for example showing a zoom in on a Samsung when I was talking about Nokias. Another example of a cutaway we needed to work on is the one of Mel and Nicole texting this needs work as it looks staged.
Negative Feedback
The last piece of constructive criticism we received was about our camera work. At certain times the camera work was wobbly. This can be improved by during cutaways using a tripod and when an interview has been framed properly leaving the camera alone.
