Schedule

The class schedule is online in the AsULearn (asulearn.appstate.edu)

There are two class sessions for each topic, choose to attend one (i.e. attend either June 7 or 9)

Three total online meetings (including tonight), finishing the week of July 24

Presentations on July 19/21 and the week of July 24

ideas from one book related to Telecommunication

Participate in the completion of two projects:1. Cross Program Collaboration2. Teaching with Telecommunications options

(groups for #1 are already created, for #2 are self-chosen and can be the same or different than your reading groups)

Project 1: Cross Program Collaboration

Collaborate with students in other programs and other sections of this course

1. Students from each course will be assigned to teams, with each representing a role within a school leadership team. The teams will be charged with addressing a scenario of creating a proposal for a utilizing a set of iPads in a school.

2. The completed plan must be posted in Teleplace on/before July 16, 2011.

3. Full description and list of team members is posted in AsULearn.

Project 2: Teaching with Telecommunications Options

Choose option 1 or 2 (work in groups of you choosing, or as an individual) to either:

1. Develop and use (if possible) learning activities that employ a telecom technology to help students learn some content or skill.

2. Develop a distance education course (web-based, video conference, or a combination) that incorporates the best of what we know about distance education.

For either option, include a summary of the unit/lessons, description of the project, and example telecommunication tools.

Presentation Schedule

Project 1: Cross Program Collaboration Due on/before July 16 in Teleplace forum Discuss in class meetings on July 19/21

Project 2: Teaching with Telecommunications Options As an asynchronous “poster session”,

where you will view (and comment on) other groups’ presentations during the week of July 24

Upload a file on/before July 24 See example of last year’s class posters in the Commons area of the

AET Zone

Book Related to Telecom and Society In your reading/discussion groups: read,

discuss, and post major ideas from one book related to Telecommunications (see list of suggested titles in AsULearn)

Other books are okay, related to Telcom (Internet, social media, etc.) and society - but email instructor first and briefly describe the topic of the proposed book BEFORE PURCHASING!

Post your ideas in the Discussion Forum during the semester – each member of your group must participate

Begin to form discussion groups, and view articles on Internet safety (find more on your own this week!) listed in the General Readings links in AsULearn
