Global economic slowdownand its impact on the IndianIT industry
Global economic slowdownand its impact on the IndianIT industry
A recent study by Forrester reveals that• 43% of Western companies are cutting back their ITspend and nearly 30% are scrutinizing IT projects forbetter returns. Some of this can lead to offshoring, but the impact of overall reduction in discretionary ITspends, including offshore work, cannot be denied• The slowing U.S. economy has seen 70% of firmsnegotiating lower rates with suppliers and nearly 60%cutting back on contractors. With budgets squeezed, just over 40% of companies plan to increase their useof offshore vendors• The IT services and outsourcing market is currentlyundergoing a structural transformation that will havea profound effect on how IT service providers willhave to conduct their businessCustomers have started to reduce project scope and /or postpone new development. However, they arealso trying to move more work to lower cost offsitelocations, which could increase IT budgets towardstangible cost saving measures.

•Infosys - The revenues from BFSI that were at 37% inJune2003havestayedmoreorlessunchangedasapercentage of total revenues. In the December 2007quarter, Infosys got close to 37% of its revenues fromBFSI. This slipped to 34% of revenues in the March2008 quarter. In the quarter ending December 2008,BFSI showed a sequential growth of 4% in volume
•Wipro - India’s third-biggest software exporter, andCognizant, ranked sixth, have seen revenue from thekey Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI)vertical rise by about a fifth between Oct-Dec 2007andJuly-Sept2008
•April-June2008,Cognizant recorded the highestgrowth from financial services vertical among theoffshore peers. This was mainly due to the type offinancial services clients in the portfolio and themultiple operating levels (table above)
•TataConsultancyServices, for example, earned 42%of its revenue in the second quarter of CY 2008 fromthe BFSI
Impact of exchange rate on revenuesIn IT sector, the margins are likely to be challengedon account of the slowing growth in the US. Rupeedepreciation seems to be the only tailwind that thesector enjoys. This can be evident from the fact that theout of the increase in the IT export revenues for FY 2008over FY 2007, almost half of the increase could beattributed to the rupee depreciation during the sameperiod.
Pricing poised for decline in favour of volumesPricing has been difficult in this sector compared toother sectors: On an average, the US financial sector hasdriven bulk volumes through lower onsite pricing, higheroffshoring and aggressive volume discounts. It is safe toinfer that BFSI application business margins especially inthe top companies are a few percentage points belowthe higher margin verticals like, say, energy. Hence,a replacement of financial services business withbusiness from other verticals is likely to positivelyimpact the bottom line. A speedy replacement ishowever, easier said than done.

I am very well aware of my talent and skill set. I know that I am unable to write coding and develop projects based on the customer needs and I am weak in communication and logical thinking too……..
Prerequisites to become a network professional
A network administrator should have a strong background in math, sciences, and computer science, as well as experience working with computers. Although a college degree in computer science, systems science, math, or engineering is not required to become a network administrator, advancement is difficult without one.
Administrators should be familiar with a variety of network operating systems, including Microsoft, Novell, and Unix. Because computer technology changes rapidly, administrators must constantly upgrade their knowledge base.
Network administration requires good organizational and logical thinking skills, both to set up and administer a network and to diagnose and solve problems.
Administrators must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines when required. Because they may have to work with users who have little or no technical knowledge, they must be able to communicate complex and unfamiliar ideas easily.
Several companies that produce network software also offer
training and certification in network administration.

Vendors and Vendor Certifications
Vendors and Vendor Certifications
Advantage of Vendor Certification
Certification demonstrates that a certified individual is•more productive•able to solve problems faster•more confident with their solutions•more professional in the workplace•more respected by clients by showing that they have the most current knowledge appropriate for the IT industry and this often aids to a salary increase.
Salary surveys reveal the power of professional certification to boost income when compared to vendor certification. ICCP certifications result often in 10% to 20% increase in salary.
Many professional associations report between $14,000 to $15,000 differential between those certified when compared to those not certified. Vendor certifications result in $4,000 to $5,000 increase between those certified and those not.
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credential is the premier certification for professionals who analyze the business requirements and design and implement the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows® operating system and Microsoft Servers software.
Microsoft Certified IT Professional
Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)MCTs are regarded as Microsoft product and course experts who have the instructional skills and technical qualifications to deliver quality training to Information Technology (IT)
professionals and developers.
The Microsoft® IT AcademyThe Microsoft® IT Academy Program supports your delivery of world-class training on Microsoft networking and developer technologies. The courses aggressively prepare students for degree tracks and certifications that lead to careers as network administrators, programmers and system managers.
The Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification helps validate that an individual has the comprehensive set of skills necessary to perform a particular job role, such as database administrator or enterprise messaging administrator. MCITP certifications build on the technical proficiency measured in the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications. Therefore, you will earn one or more MCTS certifications on your way to earning an MCITP certification
The CCNA exam is the qualifying exam available to candidates pursuing a single-exam option for the Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA certification. The CCNA (640-801) exam will test materials from the new Interconnection Cisco Network Devices (ICND) course as well as the new Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO) course
CCNP- The Building Converged Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (BCMSN 642-812) is a qualifying exam for the Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP and the Cisco Certified Design Professional CCDP certifications. The BCMSN 642-812 exam will certify that the successful candidate has important knowledge and skills necessary to implement scalable multilayer switched networks. The exam includes topics on Campus Networks, describing and implementing advanced Spanning Tree concepts
CCIP certification validates an individual's detailed understanding of the diverse networking technologies in the service provider arena, including IP routing, IP quality of service (QoS), BGP, and MPLS. CCIP candidates demonstrate skills in a range of functions from planning to troubleshooting service provider networks.
A+ Certification is a CompTIA-sponsored testing program that certifies the competency of entry-level computer
service technicians.
A+ certification signifies that the certified individual possesses the knowledge and skills essential for a successful entry-level (6 months experience) computer service technician, as defined by experts from companies across the industry.
The program is backed by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers and publications.
The Computing Technology Industry Association, CompTIA, certifies information technology and service professionals with its widely adopted, vendor-neutral and certification programs.

The average annual salary for a network administrator during the first decade of the new millennium was $85,000. Starting salaries currently begin at $45,000; compensation for network administrators with substantial experience and advanced training in specialty fields ranges as high as $140,000 per year. These figures frequently reflect a work week well in excess of 40 hours since network administration is almost always a salaried position rather than one compensated on an hourly basis.
Total compensation packages are higher than the figures stated. As salaried employees, network administrators typically enjoy benefits such as sick leave and vacation days, as well as medical insurance and retirement packages.

Network administrator jobs are often advertised in
newspapers,
computer industry magazines
Internet job banks.
Some firms may offer to pay for the training of interested employees, because those individuals are already familiar with the company's needs.
