Interviews in more detailFrom this book, with knowledge on
the basics learnt from Alan in the
interview video, we have developed
our knowledge on creating
professional and quality interviews
further through this
book/presentation. We’ve learnt
how to improve our performance
during the interview (checklists!),
and organisation being key, as well
as learning technical skills with
sound and focus and how to avoid
problems as much as possible
(more checklists!)
By Holly Powell
All About InterviewsThe introduction essentially outlines the extreme importance of ORGANISATION which we will definitely have to master and learn from the mistakes we are sure to make but help us.
Sacred Checklist! This list could be used as a checklist for before and during location and filming the interviews, our interview Bible.
The paragraph below, ‘Get Yourself Together’ gave me some reassurance and confidence.
Final PreparationsThis page confirmed the importance of Travel and again ORGANISATION, lots and lots of organisation with equipment and making sure it is all working and is the right equipment (more checklists!) and assuring the location is quiet and nothing will greatly disturb the interview process. Such tips are not just filming interviews but filming in general.
Interviews – specific on sound
We knew sound would be very important when it comes to interviews so that nothing the interviewee saying, important or not, is lost from background noise or is lost due to a technical error, and so we took is upon ourselves to learn more on developing our sound skills and the quality of sound.
Again, this reaffirms the importance of finding a secluded, quiet area to film the interview to avoid added sound problems.
Interviews – specific on focus
Our teacher highlighted the importance of focus in not just interviews but filming in general, whether a deep or shallow focus, we will develop our knowledge on focus as it adds to the professionalism of our documentary as focus can easily throw off a shot and audience e.g. we want attention to be on the interviewee but the focus is causing the background to attract more attention.
A basic way of solving focus issues.
