What Is InternetThe Internet is a global

network consisting of millions of computers. Itis mainly used for informationretrieval and communication.

ModemShort for modulator-demodulator, a modem is adevice or program that enables a computer to transmitdata over, for example, telephone or cable lines.Computer information is stored digitally, whereasinformation transmitted over telephone lines istransmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts between these two forms. This information isrequired to surf the net.

Searching InformationInternet is used for findinginformation. Anything anybody wants to find is on Internet. It is easy to find because of the program- Search Engine.

Search Engine is a program that searches

Web pages and online documents forspecified keywords and returns a list ofthe Web pages/documents.

Different type of Search Engines are:-Google,Yahoo! Search,Bing,MSN Search etc.

The internet is the main source of education in today’s society. Most of the people use the internet to study. Many institutions also offer coaching classes and entrance exam online. The paper of CAT is given online. The result of most of the exams are declared on internet.
