"International Mother Language Day has been celebrated every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism."[1]

"The theme for IMLD 2013, promoted by UNESCO, is "The Book".

Up to last year we always dealt with translations which gave us many dictionary entries in less resourced languages, but considering the work done: there are many caring about this and actually we should reach out to all people, not just the "language world".

Therefore the proposal for this year is:

Read texts, poems etc. in your local language or a lesser resourced language "somewhere in public", if possible, to make people aware of the status of many lesser resourced languages or local languages in the world.

Somwhere in public could for example be: public libraries, universities, schools, restaurants, cafés etc. Even radio stations and TV stations could contribute by dedicating a "corner" in the news or another programme to this day."[2]
