People enter data through Input Hardware and then receive results of processing through Output Hardware.

Input Devices

Devices use to enter data in computer

It includes devices :– Keyboard– Pointing Devices– Scanners– Microphone

Keyboard

Every Computer contains Keyboard

Looks like a typewriter

Most widely used

Inputs letters, numbers and other symbols

Pointing Devices

The motion of movement of pointing devices is converted to similar movement on a monitor

It includes :– Mouse – Track ball– Joystick– Light Pen

Scanners

Scanners allow input of printed data

Reads text, photographs and graphics

Process of Scanning: – It converts data into light and dark picture element or pixels

Types of Scanners– Flatbed Scanner– Handheld Scanner– Color Scanner

Output Devices

Devices that gives out result of the entered data

Computer processed information in the form of printed documents, drawings and microfilms

It gives hard copy to the organization for routine business correspondence , billing and accounting information

For example : Architects use to compute budget

– Non Impact Printers– Laser Printer– Electrostatic Printer

Plotters

It gives output in the form of graphs, maps, charts and drawings

For example: Artist uses plotters for the different sketches

Temporary Output Devices

Video displays and audio responses

Also provide output for immediate temporary use

– CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Monitor– Flat screen

Action Output Devices

Consist of processing data to initiate some form of movement or process to control activity
