• Our school is in a unique situation of having two libraries.
• Our campuses are 1.2km apart.

Problems and Issues Faced
• Time issues
• Programme and timetable issues
• Split Campus
• Amount of other school wide PD
Barriers to Implementing I.L. in New Zealand
• Library funding in New Zealand M.O.E. (Staffing)
• Need for education for teachers and librarians – Student Teacher College of Education– Ongoing PD for teachers and librarians
Next Steps
• Continually building awareness amongst staff.
• Library programme for Y7 & 8
• Using AsTTle to identify specific areas to work on in a whole class setting.
• Pizza PD with staff
More Next steps
• Explore options for continuing the work already begun in our schools with a view to bringing other schools on board.– One possibility would be for Southland
schools to work together and invite another school to participate.
– Funding options would need to be explored to make this happen.
What is Information Literacy? And why should I care?
• School research is a training ground for real life.
• Information literacy skills are skills you will need through your life. We are always seeking information. What car or stereo should I buy? Which college should I choose? Which book should I read next? How can I sell this idea to my boss? How can I convince the school board to act on my proposal? Information helps us reach conclusions, make our choices, and communicate more effectively. But the good stuff is often buried in heaps of junk. We need to continue to improve our searching, evaluating and communication skills in a changing information environment.
• Remember computer literacy is not information literacy.
