Informatics Department is part of Faculty of Mathematics andNatural Sciences University of Padjadjaran.

There are 4 research groups in Informatics Department UNPAD

Computer Vision Research Laboratory (VisiLab)

VisiLab is focussed on the research on how to extractsemantic information from an image or a sequence of images.

The information extraction process could be in the form ofacquiring, processing, analysing, extracting features andrecognizing of image.

The information characteristics can be related to physicalcharacteristics and non-physiscal characteristics.

Physical characteristics in images can be divided into textual,graphical and facial characteristics. Meanwhile non-physicalcharacteristics consist of expressional, actional andsituational/conditional phenomena.

DeWa

DeWa : A Multiaspect Approach forMultiple Face Detection in ComplexScene Digital Image. A new approachis developed based on philosophy andknowledge of computational visionprocess.

1 Segmentation: two methods are usedfor segmentation, Piecewise LinierDecision and Gaussian MixtureModels, implemented in four colormodels, RGB, RGB normalized, HSIand YCbCr.

2 Noise Removal: noises are removedand image is enhanced byMorphological filters and ConnectedComponent Labelling.

3 Object Detection: each detectedobjects are analyzed and measured toconform the facial geometric criteria

4 The faces then are extracted for thenext implementation.

Virtual Kendang

Virtual Kendang is a software thatsimulates a traditional drum basedon virtual reality technology.

1 The research is to build algorithm todetect 3D hand push and pullmovements on a surface according todistance and speed

2 The research has contribution tointroduce one of Sundanese musicalinstrument that can be playedvirtually

3 It can be used as a learning tool ofSundanese art in the context ofculture and identity preservation ofSundanese people.

4 As musical instrument, VirtualKendnag can be played along withother instruments to createwonderful sounds as the result ofcollaboration between classical andmodern music.
