PORTRAYAL OF EKLAVYA IN THE PURPOSE The Purose It is written by T P Kailasam Taken from the Mahabharata Main character of the play is
Arjuna and Eklavya
INTRODUCTION Full name was
Thyagaraja paramasiva kailasam . (1884 – 1946 ) .
He was a playwright and prominent writer of kannada literature .
He was also called as “Kannadakka obbance kailasam ” meaning “ one and only kailasam for Kannada ” .
Eklavya is a main character of the play .
Eklavya was a Nishaada boy .
Eklavya was fast learner and best archery than Arjuna .
Eklavya wants to became best archer because he wants to save innocent animals .
Guru Dronacharya was best teacher of archery. Eklavya was also wants to learn archery from
guru Dronacharya. Eklavya was better than Arjuna. When guru Dronacharya refuse him to taught
archery that time he decide to self learing archery and he take a inspiration from the statue of Dronacharya .
In the play the purpose , Kailasam has drawn Eklavya a marginalized character in Mahabharata as a hero of the play , where as Arjuna is drawn as not good character in the play.
Dronacharya said to Eklaya that you must give me some Guru Dakhshina .
You must give me the thumb of your right hand.
Eklavya knew that without the thumb archery could not be practiced.
Eklavya without a second thought gave the thumb of his right hand to his Guru.
