Introduction
About the Community
• Geographical Location: 30 Kms. Away from Jodhpur city. Bawrala village have uneven land, somewhere sand dunes, hard land and somewhere only sand.
• Cultural Background: Bawrala village is mainly formed by Rajput & Vishnoi community. Animal husbandry & farming is the main occupation of the villagers.
• Role of Satya Bharti School in the Village: Satya Bharti School is providing quality education to the children of this village from 2007. The school proved itself as a great “Change Maker” in the field of education. The Satya Bharti School, Bawrala is providing free education to those students who are underprivileged & can not afford hi-tech education. In this school, there is no discrimination of caste, colour & religion and all students are equal on a same platform.
• Participation in ‘Design for Change’ School Contest: SBS Bawrala participated in “Design for Change” contest and put an idea to “Save Environment” through ‘Plantation’ in front of the community.
• Greenery is very less in the village.
• Every year government disburse a lot of money for Plantation, but there is no one to care for these plants.
• Community is not well aware about the “Global Warming”.
We ‘Felt’:
We ‘Imagined’:
• Talk to community leaders like – Sarpanch, Ward Panch & Old aged people.
• Meeting at village Chaupal.• Make some responsible person from village.• Make a rally with the help of students.• Prepare some slogans.• Prepare banners & role play. • Prepare V class students to plant and he will
be fully responsible for this plant.
We ‘Did’:
• We prepared 4 groups of all students for rally.• First group handled the School banner and rest
of were have slogans, charts & pictures of plants.• All students went at village Chaupal from the
school.• Class V students presented a song of plants in
front of the community.• Around 30 members were present at the village
Chaupal.• Class V students presented a role play of ‘Amrita
Devi” in front of community.• Students messaged to community that Why the
plantation is necessary & what is Global Warming.
• After completion of role play students & teachers plant 12 trees with the help of community members in the village.
• When students returned at school, they plant 6 trees with the help of teachers.
Impact on Community:
• Some of the community members came on Chaupal & signed the oath letter and promised to take care of those plants which are planted during the campaign.
• Community members were happy & amazed to see the role play of “Amrita Devi” who sacrificed herself to save the “Khejdi (Prosopis Sinerariya)” by the class V students.
• Community accepted that this was the first time that any school took great initiative to promote plantation drive in the village.
Impact on Us:
• Students promised to save plants.• Students enjoyed role play, rally & slogans, because they did it first
time.• All school staff planted trees in school campus with the help of
students.• All teachers & students make themselves responsible to take care
of these plants and rearing of saplings.
The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months)
• Door to door home survey for aware the community about Global Warming & plant more saplings around the village.
• Regular contact with parents.• Regular meetings with community.• Signing on more oath letters.
