PRESENT SITUATION GLOBALLYTechnology has ushered in the information revolution in all

aspects of human transactions. The internet has changed the way business is done, the speed at which new findings of any kind reach all parts of the world in no time, and most of all, the prospects of innovation and development it has thrown. In such a scenario, no domain is likely to remain unaffected by its enormous force. ICT is the new idiom of change in the way the world operates today. While the world is making giant strides into the future, education has no way out but to keep pace with it. How can education keep pace with a world which continues to accelerate its growth at unimaginable rapidity.

Education will need to make use of the ICT revolution and invest itself heavily into it by integrating it in all its core processes-teaching, learning, evaluation, research and administration. ICT in education is not a new trend to be followed but it is a way in which education is defined today and more importantly, preserving its relevance in the 21st century.

PRESENT SITUATION NIGERIAIn the present day society, computer is no longer a

specialized tool used only by scientists but an instrument now been extended to education, commerce, banking, industry, administration, governance, health sector to mention a few.

Nigeria as a developing nation is getting stronger by the day but one important index of strength is the quality of education provided her citizenry. Today, in most developed countries, nearly every aspect of human life including education is ICT driven. The education sector in Nigeria still lags behind in this aspect of technology.

It is quite obvious that in spite of the copious exposure to computer education as a general studies course in Nigerian universities, more than 80% of Nigerian undergraduates and graduates are unable to adequately utilize the computer and more than 90% by conservative estimate of the Nigerian secondary school students are unable to use computer, while at the primary school level, less than 5% of the total population is computer literate

The reason for this is not farfetched. The teachers teaching these students and pupils are not skilled in computer education and application. This calls for the urgent need to address the present situation as teachers constitute a major influence on the use of ICT in the teaching and learning process.

DEFINATIONInformation and Communication Technology (ICT)

can broadly be defined as the tools, facilities, processes, and equipment that provide the required environment with physical infrastructure and the services for the generation, transmission, processing, storing and disseminating of information in all forms including voice, text, data, graphics and video.

From the definition, ICT has a role to play in any country’s educational development. The ideal and plan of using the computer as a learning tool has been around since the advent of computes

In online classroom, the student logs into his or her tutor through the use of internet at home. The student asks the question and teacher replies it by writing on smart board or using PowerPoint presentation.

In this flat form the learners interact, the teacher can be in another state or country, but with the aid of ICT in education he can teach his students, they can summit their assignments to him and he marks and return them back to them online.

The teacher can also take attendance of the classroom and also ask the learners question and the learners can also ask the teachers question.

The class is much similar to the teacher been present in their mix because he sees everyone in the classroom.

THE USE OF MULTIMEDIA PROJECTORThe projector is been used in teaching and presentation, deliver

premium lectures and seminars to its students.

Since the use of projectors was installed, students and faculty have experienced improvements in colour quality, brightness, speed and ease of the projectors’ operation, it was reported. The projector helps in enhancing its teaching and learning environment

The projectors, the education is able to deliver ‘global classrooms’ which allow guest speakers from all over the world to speak to students through Skype or Google Hangouts, the projectors' fast start-up time (about seven seconds), classes can start immediately, giving lecturers more time for discussion with students.

The projectors also offer operational benefits, reducing the need for frequent filter cleaning and saving the costs of regular bulb replacement the projectors’ light sources have an expected life of 20,000 hours.

THE USE OF INTERNETThe internet is used for research purposes, sending of

assignments to teachers mail box ( e.g. G-mail, Ymail, e.t.c, searching for project topics, browsing of assignments e.t.c

Example of the internet search engines include Mozilla Firefox, Opera Mini, Explore, Chrome e.t.c.

The internet can also be used on smart-phones i.e. Android Phones, and other phones that can browse.

The Smartphone and other phones that make use of the internet has so many uses for example you can browse your assignment, search for other information's, you can also send and receive mails.

It can either be the use of computers or the phones.

PROBLEMS OF ICT IN EDUCATIONEvery minute a person spends learning how to use computers is a minute that they're not devoting to learning the content of their field. There is a tremendous amount of bad information available on the Internet, posing as good information. It takes a relatively mature person to be able to tell the difference. For students, this can be a major problem, because their motivation is often to get the assignment done as quickly as possible (and ICT allows students to get "information" very quickly) and they might well take the first 6 sources they find rather than taking the needed time to critically evaluate what they're seeing.Computer presentations (e.g. PowerPoint) can be made quite "glitzy" without adding any benefit beyond what one could have had with a simple overhead. These "glitzy" features most often serve to distract the audience, rather than focus their attention on the subject at hand.

It costs a lot, and once you're on the "technology treadmill" you've got to continually re-invest to "keep up to date". I have bought 5 new computers since 1986 (and I would have bought more, but fortunately my college is now buying my office computers for me). And I suspect I'm on the low end of new computer purchases. That's about ten thousand dollars I've spent on computers alone; and my college has spent and continues to spend hundreds of thousands to provide this stuff to staff and students.Pornography: can lead to criminal acts such as exploitation of women and children can lead to sexual addiction or perversion, can develop low moral value towards other men, women or children , can erode good religious, cultural and social beliefs and behaviour Slander: can develop into a society that disregards honesty and truth can develop bad habit of spreading untruths and rumors can lead to unnecessary argument can cause people to have negative attitudes towards another person.

Solutions to the problems of ict in education

The government should help in providing of computers in education sectors so as to make learning easier and comfortable for the learners. They should be laws guiding the use of ICT in education so as to punish anybody that goes contrary. Students should be monitored in school very well to know what they what they are up to. The cost for updating the computers should be reduced. They should be the distribution of Anti Virus to fight against Virus, worms and malicious wares that can stop the performance of the computer system.Parental guidance and school guidance is also advice able it would help in reducing the problems such as Pornography, chatting online on facebook, instagram instead of reading or researching.

CONCLUSION

ICT in education has both positive as well as negative

impact on Students and teachers, But it depends on how it is been

used by them.

ICT has made education more easier and simpler for

learning and teaching.
