“Re-inventing and

Rebooting Moodle”

Like the film industry, there comes a point where we need to reboot something to appeal

to a new audience. We need to change the perception of our Superhero.

To meet the needs of the modern learner, we need to re-invent our Moodle Platform. This

presentation focusses on how we can go about changing the cultural perception of Moodle By

changing the pedagogy.

Heroes eventually become villains

Why Perceptions Change

The comparisons we make with other

websites

I need to discover

something new

If we don’t reinvent our own

Moodle platforms, THEY won’t be around

much longer.

There are new heroes waiting to take its place

HOW CAN WE CHANGE PUBLIC PERCEPTION?

How can we re-invent or reboot our hero?

How can our hero become liked again?

What do we

ACTUALLY want to do

with Moodle?

Are we delivering what our learners actually

want?

Rediscover our goals and needs

change the culture. Not the platform We need

evolution, not

substitution

Meeting the needs of the modern learner

take a

smartphone to college every

single day

Watch online

video each day

Prefer to watch a video rather than read lots of text

Maximum video

Attention span

When asked what they want from moodle...

Simple facts and

revision snippets Lots of

Practice questions

A chance to share &

discuss

Q. Are the ways

we use Moodle and the tools we choOse relevant in online learning anymore?

All MY class notes and slides are

online!

When all other sites offer this..

GAMIFication

Why do we offer this?

This rigid style of teaching with moodle is its

greatest weakness

Like Kryptonite is to Superman

We need to re-think

Our course delivery.

Themes are still subjective to Moodle’s grid-like structure and behaviour.
