Question

OkCupid’s OkTrends, a dating research blog, pulled data from their millions of users to get answers to some fascinating questions about dating, relationships and how we present ourselves online. Contrary to what most people assumed/believed, R is the most popular kind of female photo based on new contacts per month. In other words, even though social networks are littered with these images and folks seem to be more vocal about their silliness than their sexiness, the data doesn’t lie.

Women with a R are nearly 60% more likely to get contacted than women with photos of themselves in bed.

In ancient Greek religion and myth, the Anemoi were Greek wind gods who were each ascribed a cardinal direction from which their respective winds came, and were each associated with various seasons and weather conditions.

Of the four chief Anemoi, Boreas was the north wind and bringer of cold winter air, Notus was the south wind and bringer of the storms of late summer and autumn, and D was the west wind and bringer of light spring and early summer breezes; Eurus, the east wind was not associated with any of the three Greek seasons

D is known as the fructifying wind, the messenger of spring.

Name D, a term IITBians also know in another context.

X, is email that has been subscribed to and is therefore not unsolicited, but is often not read by the recipient for a long period of time, if at all. X has been described as "email you want but not right now.”

X differs from spam in that the recipient has signed up to receive it. X is also not necessarily sent in bulk. Some examples of common X messages are news alerts, periodic messages from e-merchants from whom one has made previous purchases, messages from social networking sites, and wiki watch lists.

The name X is meant to convey the idea that such email is better than spam, but not as good as a personal email and is hence still like pig meat.

NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe and 9-year-old Sofi Collis, who wrote the winning essay in a naming contest, unveiled the names this morning at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. "Now, thanks to Sofi Collis, our third grade explorer-to-be from Scottsdale, Ariz., we have names for the rovers that are extremely worthy of the bold mission they are about to undertake," O'Keefe said. Sofi read her essay: "I used to live in an orphanage. It was dark and cold and lonely. At night, I looked up at the sparkly sky and felt better. I dreamed I could fly there. In America, I can make all my dreams come true. Thank you for the ______ and the ___________.

In 1909, Twain is quoted as saying:

"I came in with D in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with D. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together."

His prediction was accurate—Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910.

Each year, The American Dialect Society selects its Word of the Year. For 2012, the winner was a bit of a surprise.

It wasn't fiscal cliff, the ubiquitous term in the news from Capitol Hill. And it wasn't YOLO, the youthful acronym for "You Only Live Once" that quickly rose (and just as quickly fell) this past year.

It wasn’t even Gangnam Style.

The official announcement reads:

“This was the year when Q became a ubiquitous phenomenon in online talk,” Zimmer said. “Q have created instant social trends, spreading bite-sized viral messages on topics ranging from politics to pop culture.”

What is Q?

In Jan/Feb 2012, Google hosted a conference to which were invited several leading technologists, scientists, and other innovators & entrepreneurs to discuss some of the worlds most interesting & difficult problems.

They called this an exercise in "moonshot thinking" i.e. solutions that are just beyond what is currently feasible but just enough within reality.

Given the nature of the gathering (and that many videos were posted), the gathering drew comparisons with TED. The name chosen for this (and more are planned) is something that would often be seen in an algebra problem.

Traveler's diarrhea or traveller's diarrhoea (TD) is the most common illness affecting travelers. An estimated 10 million people—20% to 50% of international travelers—develop it annually. TD is defined as three or more unformed stools in 24 hours passed by a traveler, commonly accompanied by abdominal cramps, nausea, and bloating. Its diagnosis does not imply a specific organism, but Escherichia coli is the most commonly isolated pathogen.

There are a number of colloquialisms for travelers' diarrhea, such as “Montezuma's revenge”, “Aztec two step”, "Pharaoh's Revenge”.

What is the Indian colloquialism for this disease?
