Objectives of the Conference:

Conference Sub-themes:

The exhibition displayed about 50 panels which include as many projects. These projects are located in nine states of the country and are designed by about 22 architects. These architects include some of the youngest and oldest in the country. The random selection of projects was aimed to project a fairly truthful architectural scenario in the country rather than glamorizing it by including elite projects located in bigger cities only. While glancing at the collective outcome of the projects, one may become fairly knowledgeable about the latest trends in Indian architecture today besides, the interpretation and response of architects to the varying contexts e.g. locales, people, functions, resources, climate, materials, construction techniques, etc.

The exhibition is of immense value to the young architects and students of architecture to educate and inspire them to find their own approach to tackle the variety of problems. Efforts have been made to design all the panels in a consistent manner to bring uniformity in the exhibition.

The concept has been prepared by Sarbjit Bahga, Surinder Bahga and Archana Chaudhary. The research has been assisted by Neeraj Khurana, Anu Singh, Amrita, Ramandeep and Harmohinder Singh. IIA is grateful to Dr SS Bhatti, Jit Gupta, SS Sekhon, Dalbir Singh, Yashinder Bahga, Manmohan Khanna, LR Gupta, PS Mahoora, Rakesh Bansal, Jaswinder Singh, Ashok Juneja, Sanjay Goel, Dinesh Bhagat, Pritpal Singh Ahluwalia, Gagandeep Ghai, RS Sandhu, SD Singh, RK Aggarwal for their valuable advice.

and effect and their own creativity. The notion of preservation and sustenance emerge from multiple points of departure; the context, the heritage and the global exposure.

Dr Krishna Mohan, Former Chairman, Department of Geography, Panjab University, with his distinguished expertise and diverse experience, laid bare little-known aspects of Geography as the Mother Science.

Professor Harish Bhatia, a highway engineering expert, showed how a slight slant impels Engineering to reach out to Planning, a discipline that remains blissfully far removed from it by virtue of our own conditioned thinking!

Architect-Planner Archana Chaudhary presented her special view of Planning and its connectivity with Architecture in a broader perspective. Desh Ranjan Sharma, a prodigious self-taught artist, pleaded for treating Art as integral to architectural creativity.

Seven professionals were honoured with First Friday Forum Awards for Creative Excellence (FFFACE) for their noteworthy contributions in their respective fields.
