every now and then/again: when something happens “every now and then”, it happens occasionally, but not too often.

Example: Every now and then we stay home and watch TV.

pick / choose something: to decide which thing or person you want out of the ones that are available.

Example: I don’t know whether to choose a pizza or a hamburger.

someone’s heart in the right place: if someone’s heart is in the right place, he/she is a good and kind person even if he/she does not always seem to be.

Example: Jerry is a bit annoying sometimes, but his heart is in the right place.

have an eye for: to have a taste or an inclination for someone or something.

Example: Mark has an eye for art.

land on one’s feet: to be lucky or successful after you have been in a difficult situation.

Example: Richard takes the most awful risks, but he always seems to land on his feet.
