E-pals & Skype

Here is a comment from Hinewai (Year 6)"My e-pal lives on a farm in America and I live on a farm in New Zealand. It’s cool having an e-pal because they think we speak in a funny way. They sent us a picture and she is really pretty. We skyped our e-pals. It was a little bit scary talking to her at the start but when I saw her and started to talk, I really got into it. I really liked being able to say things and not having to wait for ages until they get it. They wanted Shane to show them his dancing and then they sang Happy Birthday to Casey."

Room 8 has spent a few months connecting with e-pals from Juda, Wisconsin in America - this has been used to create a realistic reason for writing and to help the children expand their minds and connect to the outside world.

NATIONAL GOAL 2 – INCREASE CAPABILITY OF TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH E-LEARNING

February 2010 August 2010 In 2008-2009 had been involved in

LPDP (Literacy Professional Development Project). Most research had related to Literacy.

Have a history of working towards whole school change but not in e-learning and also have not had buy in from all teachers. In reality more small pockets of innovation.

Only looked at ICT as a motivating factor for students

Sourcing the latest research on e-learning to inform programme development Call back days / Ewan McIntosh / online

Working towards whole school change rather than pockets of innovation. Reflections / Staff Meetings / Day book / Appraisal Goals
