The 21st century is unique in its economic, political and demographic aspects. Consequently, the business

environment too has thrown up unique challenges with regards to risk assessment, resource allocation, market

evolution and diversity management, to name a few. The outcome of this churn has been a new paradigm of

business in general and management in particular.

Management 3.0 is an upgraded, reloaded and remixed version of managing a business. The old brick and

mortar economy gave way to point and click businesses. The next phase, shaping up today, is to reconcile these

two aspects of business in order to give the customer a personalized user experience. Companies today use

social media not just to reach the target audience, nor to merely engage them for lifetime value but more so to

leverage this network and address the economic needs and social concerns of customers. Technology has wiped

out conventional industry boundaries and functional silos. Competition is out and collaboration is in.

Management 3.0 faces greater uncertainty and requires a wise mix of business intelligence and a confident,

shared vision. Diversity is the only reality and should be actively shaped into a corporate strength rather than

allowing it to transform into a stumbling block. Geographic boundaries and time zones no longer stall or disrupt

business conversations and contracts. Greater demands for transparency and accountability, especially at CXO

level, are both justified and essential. Top CEOs are replaced if they fail to meet strategic goals. Face value has

zero leverage, visiting cards and corporate addresses have no recall. If you deliver, you exist. You fail, you exit.

The single outstanding feature of Management 3.0 is that there is no road-map, no coordinates to navigate your

way. Economic cycles and technological advances are impossible to predict. Changes literally occur at the speed

of thought. At most these changes can be anticipated. Scenarios can be built and situational decision making can

be applied. With the evolving business realities management as a function has transformed to encompass a

global mindset, timely risk-taking, judicious resource management, a fiduciary P&L accounting and professional

integrity. Success stories are being written across the globe – with emerging markets setting new standards of

innovation and profit-generation. The west no longer competes, collaborating with the developing world to

undertake reverse innovation. New ideas such as a global digital currency, near field communication, intelligent

search based on user-behaviour, driver-less cars and many others are just round the corner and will usher in

more challenges for managers and entrepreneurs.

Management 3.0 is a revolution that has begun unraveling itself. True to ICBM-SBE’s pioneering DNA, IICC 2014

attempts to be the first one to chronicle this new phenomenon. The case conference invites cases on

contemporary management practices that have been implemented in response to new business realities.

Authors are also invited to highlight new business ideas and innovative business models that are turning

conventional wisdom upside – down to meet customer needs better or faster, compared to rivals. The conference

can be used as a platform to showcase the evolving leadership style of a single business icon over the years.

Alternatively, it can be used as a platform to stitch together a new management philosophy that can be commonly

observed across certain industries or economic regions. The objective of the case conference is to gather

business practitioners and management academia under one roof to celebrate the evolving philosophy of

managing businesses in the 21st century. Cases that stand out in content, force of argument or style of story-

telling will be rewarded with citations and cash prizes.

Authors are invited to send their original and unpublished case study for the sub themes mentioned below. These

themes are only indicative and not exhaustive.
