James here, is an experienced teacher.

Being the resourceful teacher he is, he jumped in the ICT for education wagon.

Page 5: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

He is good with PowerPoint.

His colleagues complimented on his creations.

Page 6: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

He caught students’ interest with the technology used.

BUT recently…

Page 7: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

…students have lost interest in his presentations.

They no longer look forward to his classes.

Page 8: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

We as teachers share the same predicament.

Page 9: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

Why would our students not be attracted to teaching aids like...

Page 10: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

These?

Page 11: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

Because...

WE ARE NOT THEM

Page 12: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

studentswant Flashy visuals similar to what they

are exposed to on TV. Internet . Video games Color combinations similar to what they are exposed to with current trends and fadsSchemas that they can relate to such as pop culture and icons . Interactive games .

Page 13: How to Use MS Powerpoint to its Fullest Potential

If we bring these into the classroom, students will pay more attention and be more eager to learn.

And to fulfill this goal we have to be

Introduction

• Creativity is a dwindling aspect in creating CGTAs

• CGTAs outperform traditional teaching aids

• CGTAs have potential to grab attention

• Attention/interest is not a constant variable

• Attention/interest is governed by trends and lifestyles

• Trends and lifestyles are much portrayed using ICT

• Therefore ICT is a good medium for teaching

• But are we using it the right way?

• For youths, the internet is a medium of play and social interactions

• Internet is a lifestyle . a trend . a society

• Social niches : noob . l337 . hax0r

• But most only use it for one-way presentations

• We must ACCEPT the fact that it needs constant exploration to unlock versatility

• We must BE FAMILIAR with it through trial and errors and the proposed guideline

• APPLY creativity with using it in lessons

• Use similar layout concepts for all CGTAs

• Have a content table or site-map as a side-page

• Use a menu bar interface ( horizontal . vertical . free-form )

• All content should be in one window (content window)

• Allocate an area for page information

( title . chapter . page numbers . sidepage links)

• Divide a page into 4 areas :

Page Info | Menu bar | Content window | Graphic space

• Study the layouts of teen websites and software for inspiration

• HYPERLINK is a powerful function for organisation

themes colours graphics functions ideas

• A theme is first thought of . . . then put into effect

• A theme revolves around color , fonts , music , graphic , etc.

• Every good website and software employs a theme

• Different people have differing views on themes

• The favored themes for youth are governed by trends and lifestyles

• There are a few universal themes that would cater for all students

• Currently themes for teens are :

Modern | Japanese Anime/ Zen | Retro | Grunge | Tricolor

• Themes for young adolescents are :

Cartooney | Nickelodeon-ish | Retro | Tricolor | Modern

RULES FOR COMBINING COLORS

• Not all colors can be combined together and contrast well

• Color preferences differ between gender but not so across levels

• Safest way to combine colors is to use colors which only differ in hue; which only differ in saturation or which only differ in brightness

• Timeline is a concept not usually associated with PowerPoint but with Flash and movie editors

• The strength in Flash is the ‘timeline’ function

• With timeline every slide page can look like an animation Flash movie

• Timeline is quite easy to master. It has only 3 variables

• On click

• With Previous

• After Previous

• Even with the last 2 variables, the use of timeline is endless if one is familiar with sleek movements of Flash

• The best way to employ motion path is to guide texts and pictures to their final placements/ location in a page

• This function resembles closely Flash’s motion path animation

• Observe Flash websites and be inspired by their sleek movements
