HOW TO RFID A CART

- Once a cart has been double discharged, it is now ready to RFID. Make sure to place a RFID Needs Tags and Writing slip inside one of the books on the double discharged cart. These slips are located above the left hand side computer in the shelving room. After, place the cart on the backside of the hold shelf to be RFIDed.

- Once the cart is ready to be RFIDed, bring the cart to the computer on the right in the shelving room. Ensure that Bibliotheca, the RFID tagging program, is open. Click on the Bibliotheca icon on the taskbar to open the program. Once Bibliotheca is open, make sure that the Security – On – Armed box is selected on the left hand side of the window.

- Next, you need to sync up the barcode of each book on the cart with the book’s RFID tag. If the book does not have a barcode on the cover, place a new barcode on the top left hand side of the cover. Please refer to the Voyager Training Powerpoint for instructions on how to change a barcode in Voyager. If the book does not have a RFID tag on the inside of the back cover or last several pages of the book, place one near the spine on the center of the inside of the back cover. RFID tags are located to the left of the printer in the shelving room.

- Once the book has a barcode on the front cover and a RFID tag on the inside of the back cover, it is now time to sync up the barcode with the RFID tag. With Bibliotheca open, make sure that the cursor is flashing in the white box below the Security Data portion of the Bibliotheca window. Then, place the book on the RFID pad. With the book on the RFID pad and the cursor in the white box, scan the barcode.

- Once the barcode is scanned, the status in Bibliotheca should read Item Write Succeeded and the barcode should be listed in the Item ID box. The barcode and RFID are now synced. Repeat the barcoding (if applicable) and scanning/tagging for each book on the cart, continuing in call number order until all books on the cart have been barcoded and scanned/tagged. Once all books have been RFIDed, you can now create a cart. Refer to the How to Create a Cart PowerPoint for instructions on creating a cart.
