Hook and Topic SentenceHook

Use the question to formulate the sentence that will be the topic of your answer paragraph or essay.

Hook

Thunderstorms occur when a moist warm air mass and a cold dry air mass collide and there is a conflict between the two air masses. When the characters in a novel collide, it often takes place during a thunderstorm.

Topic Sentence

In The Lion King, the physical fight between Simba and Scar takes place during a thunderstorm, and the storm is a symbol of the conflict between the two lions.

Supporting ProofYou should have at least three statements that support the idea in your topic sentence.

They may be quotes, conclusions that you have drawn, examples, data, etc.

Pose an alternative, or contracting point of view and explain why it is incorrect.

The thunderstorm that takes place while Simba and Scar are fighting represents the conflict between them. Both of them want to be king, but there can be only one. If both could be king there wouldn't be a problem.

Conclusion

Once Simba wins the fight, the rain stops and the sun shines, but this is a very different symbol.
