Joe Hourcle is a Principal Software Engineer with Wyle Information
Systems, Inc., currently working at the Solar Data Analysis Center at
NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center .
His current projects include archival support for the STEREO Science Center, data distribution for the
Solar Dynamics Observatory, and development and operations support for the Virtual Solar Observatory,
a federated search system for solar physics data.
He holds a Master’s degree in Information Manage-ment from the University of Maryland’s College of
Information Studies.
Joe will talk about his experience with the Virtual Solar Observatory's attempts to pro-vide federated search to solar physics data to the science community.
He will discuss issues in dealing with the needs of a diverse scientific community in accessing heterogeneous data that has been collected for different investigations, and the VSO's attempt to deal with these issues.
