Additional Muskie Program RequirementsAdditional Muskie Program Requirements

Community Service Internship

Perform a minimum of 40 hours of community service during the

first year of study

Secure and participate in a full-time (35 hours per week) internship following the first

academic year of study

Full-time study

Complete 1-2 academic year(s) of full-time study and remain in

good academic standing

Submit community service plans, internship

documentation, transcripts, and semester and final reports by Muskie Program deadlines

• Participants are selected through an open, merit-based competition

• A highly competitive fellowship, averaging over 3,000 applications per year with a 5% rate of acceptance

Muskie fellowships include degree and non-degree awards.

Fellows may be offered a 12, 15, 16 or 22-month award.

• If a Muskie has been granted a 1 year (12 month), non-degree award, then the fellow is not permitted to receive a degree from the host institution and is not permitted to enroll in a degree program.

home country• Round-trip airfare from the

fellow’s home city to their host institution in the United States

• Welcome Orientation in DC• Accident and Sickness

coverage (ASPE)

• Monthly allowance for living expenses

• Partial tuition and mandatory university fees

• Limited allowance for books• Pre-academic English-

language training (if necessary)

• A wide variety of alumni networking and training opportunities
