Action HorrorThis genre is the type where the conventional horror are combined with guns, fighting and a lot of killing.

Thing that are usually involved in this genre are zombies, werewolves, vampires with a lot of gore.

Examples of this genre are Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil and Dog Soldiers.

Comedy HorrorThis genre combines comedy and horror together. Normally, the comedy over takes the Horror and it becomes more funny than scary.

Examples of this genre are Shaun of the Dead and the Scary Movies.

Gothic HorrorThis genre mixes in some gothic elements within the Horror genre. Most of the gothic movies were all made in earlier years such as the 1930’s. Nowadays they’re usually just re-makes of the original.

These elements may include castles, dungeons and the supernatural.

Some examples of these are Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy.

Psychological HorrorThis is the genre that plays with the audience’s fears and emotions to build up on the tension of the movie and develop the plot further.

This genre tends to be the scariest out of them all because your senses are raised and the tension continues to rise and rise until it hits its climax.

Some examples of this genre are The Shining and The Ring

Slasher HorrorThis genre has a lot of violence in based around a serial killers, stalkers etc. attacking the victim(s)

The killer usually uses a particular weapon to kill their victims every time.Slasher films tend to build up a lot of tension also and sometimes overlap with the Crime genre i.e., if the movie involves a police/FBI investigation.

Some examples of this genre are Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Zombie HorrorThis genre is pretty self-explanatory. A lot of zombies that tend to feed off the living and surviving humans try to kill them all.

Some examples of this genre are 28 Days later and I am Legend

Natural HorrorThis genre is again, pretty self explanatory; Horror that happens naturally. This could be something like animals or diseases.

This genre sometimes overlaps with science fiction and action.

These tend to be pretty scary too because the audience know that this could happen in real life.

An example of this is Jaws.
