What is it?

It is the concept of our body maintaining a constant and stable

environment.

Page 3: Homeostasis - Arfan

Why is it Important to our body?Things Homeostasis can do:▣ it warms your body in cold

temperature▣ it keeps you away from diseases ▣ it also maintain your digestive

system.

How does it work?

The Controllers

Page 7: Homeostasis - Arfan

The EffectorsThese are elements commanded by

the controllers that have the function of carrying out actions that

in fact regulate and maintain the equilibrium of the body, including in muscles, glands, cellular organelles,

etc., as well as structures that participate in genetic translation,

production of proteins, etc., on the molecular level.

Body TemperatureHypothermia <35.0 °C (95.0 °F)

Normal =36.5–37.5 °C (97.7–99.5 °F)

Fever >37.5 or 38.3 °C (99.5 or 100.9 °F)

Hyperthermia >37.5 or 38.3 °C (99.5 or

100.9 °F)

Hyperpyrexia >40.0 or 41.5 °C (104.0 or

106.7 °F)

Thermoregulation

It is the process that allows the human

body to maintain its core internal temperature.

Page 11: Homeostasis - Arfan

How does it work? The central nervous system in our spine

sends messages to the hypothalamus about our

body. From there, it activates our body's

thermoregulatory system if needed.

VasodilationHealth benefits:▣ lowering blood pressure▣ assists in eliminating excess metabolic produced heat▣ enhances clotting factor & leukocyte entry into

damage tissue▣ increases delivery of oxygen & nutrients during energy

consuming activities

Page 14: Homeostasis - Arfan

VasoconstrictionHealth benefits:▣ Retain heat in cold climates▣ Reduce excessive blood loss▣ Prevent orthostatic hypotension

Page 15: Homeostasis - Arfan

OsmoregulationControlling water and ion content of the bodyThis is controlled to protect cells by avoiding too much water entering or leaving them. Water content is controlled by water loss from:

▣ the lungs when we exhale▣ the skin by sweating▣ the body, in urine produced by the kidneys▣ the skin while sweating▣ the body, in the urine produced by kidney
