Mother’s dayThis day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent. This day Shrewsbury cakes are sold.

Mothers get cakes and cupcakes, chocolate and flowers.

Children do all the housework.

All the people in England, Ireland, the USA and some regions in Canada celebrate ST. PATRICK`S DAY on the 17th of March. They put on green clothes and go to the beer parties or visit their relatives. Before the festival people make colourful decorations and cook meals. In the evening they watch a fireworks display. All the people have a good time.

PANCAKE IN ENGLAND TAKES ONLY ONE DAY ON THE LAST TUESDAY BEFORE LENT. A LOT OF FUN AND COMPETITIONS ARE ORGANIZED BUT THE CULMINATION IS A TRADITIONAL PANCAKE RACE. THE TEAM OF 4 PEOPLE HAVE TO RUN A DISTANCE WITH PANCAKES IN FRYING PANS. THEY TOSS PANCAKES AS THEY RUN, TRYING NOT TO DROP THEM ONTO THE GROUND. PARTICIPANTS CAN BE DRESSED AS HOUSEWIVES.

May day

This day many English people come to the parade with their families and friends. They paint their faces red and white - the colours of the flag. It’s a very nice festival ! Everybody has a great time !

Then they choose a May Queen to lead the holiday. Also you can see a lot of performers in the streets and take part in different competitions.

Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night is an important festival in the UK. People celebrate it on the 5th of November. Bonfire Night lasts during the night from 4 to 5 November.This day people cook traditional dishes of English cuisine - potatoes with grilled sausages or chicken legs, carrot salad and sweet pudding for dessert. Before the festival, the whole family makes The Effigy Of Guy. If you don`t have time to do an effigy, you can buy it in a shop. At night children can have fun together with their parents. Children paint their faces with coal and run around bonfires, light fireworks and firecrackers. All night people burn effigies of Guy (Guido) Fawkes. Many people wear masks with Fawkes’s face. The slogan of this festival is: «Remember, remember, the 5th of November!» Everybody has a great time.
