The term refers to the use of technology in different educational settings.
Visual education or visual instruction were used originally.
When sound was added, the term changed to audiovisual.

education effectively: to support explanations, give conctrete
examples to abstract meanings, to gain students interest, but never to
replace the teacher.

RadioBenjamin Darrow : founder of the

1950s -1960s: Initial interest in the use of television
1952: the Federal Communcations Commission (FCC) set asied 242 television channels for educational purpouses.
George Klein published a catalogue of educational motin pictures. Films could be rented by schools.
Computers1980: Computers started being
used for educational purpouses.
Access to computers was limited.
Little by little, they are replacing the other media, even coursebooks.
Ideal use of computers: complement the other tools in teaching.

developed for students to work ar their own pace. The computer would keep track of their work.
