The Himalaya Range is the highest mountain chain of the world. It have four of the mountains whose

height exceed 8000 meters.

The Everest Mountain is the most famous place of the Himalaya with 8844 meters of height.

Do you know what is the meaning of “Himalaya”??

Page 3: Himalaya

The literally meaning of Himalaya comes of the Indian word “jimālaia”.

“Jimālaia” is the composition of the

words “jimā” (snow) and “alaia” (adobe), so its literal translation is

Adobe of Snow.

Where is the Himalaya located?

The Himalaya Range is located in Asia, and it stretches by four countries: Butan, India, Nepal and China.

So this mountain chain separates the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.

It is very important clarify that even though the people of countries like Nepal and India don’t name Himalayas to the mountains without snow by cultural reasons, there are a lot of them that are part of this important range.

The formation of The Himalaya Range is a result of a continental collision between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

An interesting information about Himalayas is that thanks to the movement of the plate tectonics this mountain chain rising its height by about 5mm per years.

So The Himalaya Range is growing by the geological activity now!

Why the Himalayas is a natural treasure?

The flora and fauna of the Himalayas varies with climate, rainfall, altitude, and soils. The climate

ranges from tropical at the base of the mountains to permanent ice and snow at the highest elevations. This diversity of climate, altitude, rainfall and soil

conditions generates a variety of distinct plant and animal communities.

The Himalaya Range have a lot of different environments, there are many forests, lakes, glaciers and river systems.

Some of the world's major rivers, Ganges, Indus, Brahmaputra, Yangtze, Mekong, Salween, Red River (Asia), Xunjiang, Chao Phraya, Irrawaddy River, Amu Darya, Syr Darya, Tarim River and Yellow River, rise in the Himalayas.

On the other hand Himalayas is very important from the cultural view point because several places in the Himalaya are of religious significance in Hinduism and Buddhism.

The Himalaya Range is undoubtedly a marvelous place like many others natural treasures in the world. And it is our responsibility take care of this place like human beings and "the most intelligent specie in the world".
