Hey Brother Music Video Production Diary – Shauna Leacy In my group me Emily and Sarah did the filming of our music video for the song Hey Brother. We filmed it all over a few different days in different locations we had trouble being able to all film together because we couldn’t find days where we were all free and had time to get to the places we were filming at and back to college. We asked Ryan to be in the music video. I was in the music video but I also filmed some shots which didn’t involve me, Emily and Sarah took turns to film the rest so we all had a chance to use the camera not all of us could make it when we filmed at different places because of some of us being busy, Sarah couldn’t make it when we were filming in town and I couldn’t make it to when they filmed in the forest/Irlam locks. The rest of the time everyone was there when we did the filming. We filmed in 4 locations Manchester/Town, Irlam, Cadishead/ Cadishead Moss and Salford Quays. The first place we filmed at was at Irlam train station, which we didn’t have to travel far, to get to it was close to us all. We filmed Ryan who we asked to be the Brother, walking up the stairs

Hey Brother Music Video Production Diary – Shauna Leacy

In my group me Emily and Sarah did the filming of our music video for the song Hey Brother.

Page 2: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

Ryan on his phone which Is when the music starts

And him getting on the train/train leaving

Page 3: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We filmed the shots of it pulling in and leaving at the same time we had to turn the camera around get it so it was positioned right and film the train leaving the platform we had to make sure we were quick so we could film all of it at once.

The next place we went to was Salford Quays to film me who was the sister walking around we did the same shot from different angels of the ‘sister’ walking down some steps we filmed two

Page 4: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

different angels one from the back and one from the front and then another walking away from the camera of the sister putting her hood up and then a final shot of the sister leaning on the side looking out to the water

This clip we had to re film because I had to wear a certain coat which in the first clips we filmed I didn’t have on.

Page 5: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We did this shot again a few times to try and get one that looks realistic and not set up we shot it around 4 times and then chose the best one once we watched the clips over and we also filmed another one like this but of the sister walking over a bridge

Page 6: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

The next place we went to was in Irlam it was a forest and Irlam locks to film Ryan the brother walking around. The first couple shots where filmed at the locks where Ryan’s throwing the stone we filmed this shots a few times from different angels one close up of Ryan with the stone then of him throwing it and then another from a different side of him throwing it then of him walking after he threw it.

Page 7: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We filmed this same shot but from different angles so the person watching wouldn’t get bored of seeing the same shot for a long time so we broke it up to you could also see more of where he was and the location we were in

Page 8: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

again this wide shot was to show more of where he was and what he could see from where he was stood.

Then we moved location to him walking around the forest another place he went through as he was making his way to the meeting point we thought that he had to be in a lot of different places to get the effect of him walking from a far it adds to the story of them not seeing each other in along time.

Page 9: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

Again all shot from different angels to show him making his way to the meeting point. The next place we went to was the café we filmed the same scene but from different angles the same reason because we didn’t want the person watching to get bored of the same shot the way we did it is that it’s the same one but you can see a closer version.

Page 10: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

Again over the shoulder so you can see what she is drawing and then another from outside so you can see more of where she is

Page 11: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

The next scenes where on the tram and getting off the tram this is when you first see the ‘sister’ this is showing how she stared the ‘journey’

Page 12: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

This was hard to film because I had to get ready to get off the tram whilst Emily filmed me walking completely off for her to then follow me in time before the tram drove away.

Then we went to town to film the main part of the music video we filmed the brother and the sister we tried to make the shots same so you could see the similarity in the brother and the sister.

Page 13: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

Two wide shots of them walking away and toward the camera.

Then a few more of them sat having a break

Page 14: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We filmed this one from different angels again so you wouldn’t get bored of looking at a still shot for too long

Page 15: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

Then we switch to the sister so you can follow both of them

Also did a scene of the brother walking towards to camera

Page 16: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

and then the sister walking away from it to show a connection with the brother and sister so you understand the story more

The next part we did was a still shot of the brother and

Page 17: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

sister stood in the middle of a busy place we filmed each one a minute long so we could then edit it after, we could speed up the people around them whilst they stood still in the middle this was hard to film because we had to make sure no one came up to us or interrupted the shot this happened to Ryan a women walked up to him and asked him why he was stood in the middle of a street we had to cut short his clip just before she walked up to him luckily she walked in near the end of the minute we filmed

The next few shots where all fillers we had to film these to

Page 18: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

brake up the whole video so you could see the locations they were in also so it didn’t get boring where it was just them two walking around constantly.

These final shots where filmed at Cadishead moss this we

Page 19: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

only had one chance to film this because we were using an abandoned house which is now sold so we could go back there we filmed all these shots in one day and had bad weather from it raining we where all here to film this last bit.

First was the motorway shots of the sister (me) walking over it we had several attempts at this because of the wind and the frame being right

Then we filmed the sister walking up to the house

Page 20: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

The holding her drawing up to the house we did this so you could understand the connection of her drawing in the café early in the music video

The we filmed the brother walking up to the house from a different street

we used the switching from the brother and sister idea again because it was then finally meeting after a ‘long time’ it was so it fit our story.

Page 21: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

The next scenes where of them meeting we filmed this again from different angels so you could see what was happening

Page 22: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We used a picture of Emily and her brother this was so you knew if you didn’t already catch on from the song that they were brother and sister and this was suppose to be a picture of them younger at that house

This next scene was them walking to the window to look into the house, then we changed the scene to into of the house we did a pan around it so you could see most of the inside

Page 23: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

This shows a section of the house then it moves to the window and to then show the brother and sister stood outside looking in we had to film this shot a few times to make sure that it was smooth and that Ryan timed it so his arm went around as the camera stopped at the window it was hard to hear each other because Sarah and Emily were in the house so they had to shout ‘When’ from inside to us outside.

Page 24: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

We had trouble with this shot we had to brake it up or change it some how and not being able to re film it we had to use the footage we already had. I used a shot from outside the house we shot the same day

Then the two final shots for the music video was the shot from inside looking out

and the drawings that the sister did early on in the café on the mantle piece in the house left there one drawing she

Page 25: Hey brother music video production diary – shauna leacy

did when she was living at the house and a new drawing she recently drew and the photo of them in the middle

We didn’t want to film them inside the house because we just wanted to cut it there because we didn’t want to drag out the ending to long.
