Abstract
Wereport rangeextensions inPanama for twoanurans (Craugastor tabasarae, Isthmohyla zeteki)andthreespeciesofAnolis(A. auratus, A. fungosus, and A. microtus).WealsocollectedspecimensofBolitoglossa lignicolor and A. polylepisthatextendtheknownverticalrangeofthesespecies.Finally,wereportuponaseriesofthepoorlyknownCraugastor monnichorum.Briefeco-logicalfieldnotesareincluded.Forseveralspeciesnotesonthecolourationinlifeareprovided.

Introduction
Panamasupportsoneof themostdiverseandabun-dantherpetofaunasof anyCentralAmerican country(MyerS & DuellMan 1982, ibañezetal.2001).InJanu-ary2006wespentfourweeksinthefield,collectingatseverallocalitiesintheprovincesofChiriquíandBocasdelToro aswell as in theComarcaNgöbeBugle. Intotal,wecollectedabout80speciesofamphibiansandreptiles includingeightundescribedspecies (Köhleretal.2007a,b,WaKeetal.2007,Köhler & Sunyer2008).Thesefindingsindicatethattheamountofherpetologicalexplorationneeded inwesternPanama is still substan-tial.Itisevidentthatmanyspeciesstillawaitdiscoverybeforethelastfewexpansesofforestarereplacedwithcropland.Herewereportuponseveralnoteworthyspeci-
menscollectedduringourfieldworkinwesternPanamain2006, aswell as an additional specimencollectedearlier.
Materialsandmethods
Abbreviationsused forcollectorsareAB(AbelbatiSta),GK(GuntherKöhler), JS (JavierSunyer),andMP(MarcosPonce).SpecimenslabelledwithSMFnumbersaredepositedinthecollectionsoftheForschungsinstitutundNaturmuseumSenckenberg,FrankfurtamMain,Germany.Thecapitalizedcoloursandcolourcodes (the latter inparentheses)are thoseofSMithe(1975–1981).Abbreviationsformuseumcollectionsfollowthoseoflevitonetal.(1985).

Bolitoglossa lignicolor(PeterS1873)
Bolitoglossa lignicolor isarelativelywidespreadspe-ciesknownfromnumerouslocalitiesinCostaRicaandPanama.Wecollected this species at several sites inwesternPanamaincludingtwospecimens(SMF85059–60),collected9.i.2006atFincaC.A.S.A.,8º52'17.0''N,82º47'43.4''W, 8km NE Río Sereno, 1210m. Thisrecordextends thevertical rangeof thespecieswhichwaspreviouslyknown from2–884mabove sea level(SavaGe 2002).SMF85059was foundduring thedaywhilstremovingleavesfromabananatreenearasmallstreaminaratheranthropogenizedarea.

Craugastor monnichorum(Dunn1940)
Littleisknownaboutthismontanefrogwhichisalsopoorly represented inmuseumcollections (R. ibañez pers. comm., Jan.2006).On4.i.2006wecollecteda
series(SMF85031–36)ofCraugastor monnichorumatAltoChiquero(onsouthernslopeofVolcánBarú),about400mSof theParqueNacionalVolcanBarú (PNVB)station,8°50'N,82°29'W,1810–1830m.Allspecimenswerefoundatnightalongastreamsittingonlowvegeta-tionoverhangingthewaterordirectlyattheedgeofthestream,20–100cmabove theground.Thefrogs inourseries exhibited strikingvariation in colour.Thecol-ourationinlifeofSMF85031wasrecordedasfollows:dorsalgroundcolourRawUmber(123)withYellowishOliveGreen(50)shadings;dorsalsnoutClayColor(26);lateralheadRusset(34);adistinctdirtywhitemidgularstripepresent;posterior thighSepia (119)withDrab-Gray (119D)mottling;venterDarkDrab (119B)withdirtywhitemottling;ventralsurfacesofhandsandfeetBlackishNeutralGrey (82);upperportionof irisClayColor (26), lowerportionDrab (27),upperand lowerportionsseparatedbyaMaroon(31)horizontalbar.Thecolouration in lifeofSMF85032was recordedas fol-lows:dorsalgroundcolourMarsBrown (223A)withParrotGreen (260)blotches; lateralhead MarsBrown(223A)withMaroon (31)verticalbarsandsubcanthalstripe; supratympanicridgeSepia(119)borderedbyMa-roon(31)below;posterior thighBrownishOlive (129)

Craugastor tabasaraewaspreviouslyknownonlyfrom its type locality (9.7kmNNWElCopé,on thecontinentaldivideatSawmill,8°40'4''N,80°35'6''W,LaPintadaDistrict,CocléProvince,600–800m).On22.i.2006,wecollectedanadult specimen(SMF85377)atLaNevera,8°29'45''N,81°46'35''W,1600melevation,SerraníadeTabasará,ComarcaNgöbeBugle,DistritodeNoleDüima,CorregimientodeJadeberi,Panama.Thisextends theknowngeographic rangeofC. tabasarae about130kmtothewest.SMF85377wasfoundactiveatnightincloudforest.Colourationinlifeofthespeci-menwasrecordedasfollows:dorsalgroundcolourFus-cous(21);vertebralstripeBuff(124);iguinalandthighregionPratt’sRufous(140);irisSmokeGrey(45)withaWarmSepia(221A)horizontalbar.

On22.i. 2006,we collected two adult specimens(SMF85382–83)of Isthmohyla zeteki atLaNevera,8°29'45''N, 81°46'35''W,1600melevation,SerraníadeTabasará,ComarcaNgöbeBugle,DistritodeNoleDüima,Corregimientode Jadeberi,Panama.This ex-tends theknowngeographicrangeof thespeciesabout65kmtotheeast(DuellMan2001).SMF85382–83areadult♂♂thatwerecallingfromterrestrialtankbrome-liadsatnight.ThecolourationinlifeofSMF85377wasrecordedasfollows:dorsalgroundcolourBuff(24);dor-salsurfaceofsnoutRawUmber(23);chinOliveYellow(52);venter transparentwithwhiteperitoneumvisible;irisBrickRed(132A).

85094–96werefoundactiveduringthedayingrassinabackyardontheouterlimitsofLosAlgarrobos.
Anolis fungosus MyerS1971
Anolis fungosus isknownonlyfromafewlocalitiesin theCordilleradeTalamaca inCostaRicaandadja-centPanama(SavaGe 2002).On4.iii.2006,ABandMPcollectedanadult♂(SMF86385;SVL48.2m)ofthisspeciesnearRioHornito (8°43'4.7''N,82°13'42.1''W,1075melevation) in theReservaForestaldeFortuna,Chiriquí.Thisextends theknowngeographic rangeofthespeciesabout55kmtotheeastfromitsnearestcol-lecting site (upperwatershedofRíoChangena,northversantCerroPando,Bocas delToro;MyerS 1971).SMF86385wasfoundatnightwhileitwassleepingonthebranchofabush.
Anolis microtus coPe1871
SavaGe(2002:455)reportsAnolis microtustoexhibit“a lightyellowor tangroundcolormarkedbyaseriesof light brown-centereddarkbands thatmay changetogreenonflanks.”Slevin (1942) reportedupona ju-venile specimen (CAS79598) fromBoquete thathadagrayishgroundcolourwithheavyblackcross-bandsin life.On3.i.2006wecollecteda juvenile♂ (SMF85070;SVL41.5mm)atAltoChiquero (on southernslopeofVolcánBarú),above theParqueNacionalVol-canBaru (PNVB)station,8°50'47''N,82°29'13.6''W,1870m,whichagreedwellwith thedescriptiongivenbySlevin (1942).On22.i.2006,wecollecteda juve-nile♀ (SMF85069;SVL70.0mm)ofA. microtus atLaNevera,8°29'45''N,81°46'35''W,1600melevation,SerraníadeTabasará,ComarcaNgöbeBugle,DistritodeNoleDüima,Corregimientode Jadeberi,Panama.Thisextendstheknowngeographicrangeofthespecies80kmtotheeastfromitsnearestcollectingsite(ANSP22418–19 fromBoquete,Chiriquí;G.Köhlerunpub-lishedobserv.).SMF85069has a remarkableoverallgreenishcolouration,andweprovidethefollowingnotesonitscolourationinlife:DorsumofheadwithshadingsofYellowOcher(123C)andCitrine(51);lateralsurfacesof snoutOliveYellow (52)butpaler; aChestnut (32)circumorbital ringpresent, continuingasapostorbitalstripeedgedbyVandykeBrown(221);dorsalandlateralsurfacesofbodywithdifferentshadesofgreenandyel-low includingBuntingGreen (150)andOliveYellow(52)with fourGreenishOlive (49)obliquecross-bars;centersofcross-barsinvertebralregionVandykeBrown(221); tailYellowishOlive-Green (50)withVandykeBrown(121)cross-bars; irisRawUmber(223)gradingintoCyan(164)peripherically;dewlapBeige(219)withCreamColor(54)stripesthathaveasuggestionofLimeGreen(59).

Previously,Anolis polylepiswasknownfromsealev-el to1330melevation (SavaGe 2002, Köhler 2003).On29.i.2006,JScollectedoneadult♂ofthisspecies(SMF85442) at 1615melevation at the headwatersofQuebradaChevo,8º52'27.6''N,82º44'31.7''W.SMF85442wasfoundatnightsleepingonathinbranchabout2mabovetheground,nearastream.
