HEART
DISEASE
By Samara Sewak
INTRODUCTIONHeart disease is a terrible disease. It mainly effects older people.
Heart disease is when the heart and blood vessels aren‘t working the way they should. There are many different types
of heart disease.
MAIN TYPES OF HEART DISEASE• Cardiomyopathy- heart muscle disease
• Cardiovascular disease- disease of the blood vessels of the heart
• Congenital heart disease- malformation of the heart present at birth• Heart failure
• Hypertensive heart disease- damage caused by high blood pressure
• Inflammatory heart disease- damage to the heart valves
• Coronary heart disease
HOW DO YOU GET HEART DISEASE?You can get heart disease by lots of things one of those thing is
smoking. You can get heart disease by smoking because the chemicals in tobacco smoke harm your blood cells. They also can
damage the structure and function of your blood vessels.
Genetic reasons and high blood pressure can also lead to heart
disease. You can also get it by not eating enough fruit and vegetables
and being overweight. Age also increases your risk of heart disease.
DOES HEART DISEASE AFFECT THE REST OF YOUR BODY?
Heart disease does affect the rest of your body because when
the plaque builds up in your blood vessels it is difficult for
blood to travel around different parts of your body. When the heart pumps blood it takes a
longer time to go around your body. It is then hard for your
body to work properly.
HOW DO YOU PREVENT HEART DISEASE?
You can prevent heart disease by eating nutritious healthy food like fruits and vegetables every day. You can also prevent it by
not being overweight, not getting stressed to often and by exercising regularly. But the most important thing you can do to
prevent heart disease is never smoke.
CAN HEART DISEASE BE CURED?Yes. Heart disease can be cured by a few things. Two of the main ways to cure it is oxygen therapy and heart medication. Oxygen
therapy helps bring oxygen to your damaged heart and heart medication can help the blood flow easier. Some people with
heart disease can also have a by-pass operation. But prevention is always better than cure.
