William Craft is Founding Partner of the Eaton Cummings Group in Ipswich,
Massachusetts.
1987
Richard Hurley, Acting President and former Executive Vice President at the University
of Mary Washington (VA), has been named the permanent President at that institution.
1988
Julius Erlenbach, Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin at Superior, has announced
his retirement effective August 1, 2010.
1989
Judy Hample has resigned as President of the University of Mary Washington (VA),
effective June 30, 2010.
1992
Manuel Carreiro is Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Quinnipiac
University (CT).
Class Correspondent Peg Lee, President of Oakton Community College (IL), provided news
about one of her classmates. On October 22, 2009, the U.S. Department of Education
announced the appointment of Frank Chong as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Community Colleges in the Office of Vocational and Adult Education. Prior to this
assignment, Frank had served as President of Laney College within the Peralta Community
College District (CA).
1994
William Sipple, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bay Path College
(MA), will retire in June 2010 after more than a decade of service to the college. Bill has
been working with Carol Leary, Bay Path President and fellow IEM ’94 classmate.
1997
Guy Altieri is President of Hagerstown Community College (MD).
1999
Michael Battle, former President of The Interdenominational Theological Center (GA),
has accepted the invitation of President Obama to serve as United States Ambassador to the
African Union. Stationed at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he is
working with 53 nations on the African continent.
Although the application deadline for IEMhas passed, the Admissions Committee isconsidering additional applications on acase-by-case basis.

University (MA).

Thomas Lindsay recently stepped down as President of Shimer College (IL).
Jack Payne has been named Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources
at the University of Florida.
2004
Jeff Abernathy has been named the 13th President of Alma College (MI), effective July 1,
2010.
Claudette Williams, President of Edward Waters College (FL), has announced her
resignation, effective May 15, 2010.
2005
Glenda Gallisath is Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the College of DuPage
(IL).
Tim Hynes, Interim President at Clayton State University (GA), has been appointed to that
post on a permanent basis. Susan Herbst (Chief Academic Officer for the University
System of Georgia and IEM ’06 alum) was the individual who announced Tim’s
appointment.
Tom Jackson, Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Louisville (KY), is
currently serving as President of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
Eduardo Ochoa, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sonoma State
University (CA), has been nominated by President Obama as Assistant Secretary for
Postsecondary Education. Ochoa will lead the Education Department office that administers
most federal government programs for colleges and college students. The Assistant
Secretary also serves as the chief adviser to the U.S. Secretary of Education on higher
education issues.
2006
Michael Harris has been appointed Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo.
2007
Patrick Finnegan has been named President of Longwood University (VA).
Joe Urgo, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Hamilton College
(NY), has been named President of Saint Mary’s College of Maryland. His appointment
begins on July 1, 2010.
Joe Dieker has been selected to become the next Vice President for Academic Affairs and
Dean of Cornell College (IA).
2008
Joe Bertolino, Vice President for Student Affairs and Chair of the Department of Student
Personnel at the City University of New York Queens College, has been named an ACE
Fellow for the 2010–2011 academic year by the American Council on Education.
Adelaide Ferguson retired from the interim Vice Presidency of International Affairs at
Temple University (PA) and launched a consulting practice to work with colleges and
universities on their globalization planning and implementation.
Marcus Lingenfelter has accepted a position at the College Board, where he will be
serving as Director of State Government Relations for the Middle States Region. He will be

representing the policy interests of the College Board before the legislatures and
administrations of six mid-Atlantic states.
Michael Miller has been named President of Northland College (WI), effective July 2010.
He is succeeding Karen Halbersleben (IEM ’00 and NP ’02).
Thomas Wallace has been named Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the
University of Nebraska at Omaha.
2009
Jim Hart, President of the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies (FL), recently
reported that his school was granted initial accreditation by the Commission on
Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education. It is the first stand-alone
graduate school in the association.
Patricia Hsieh, President of San Diego Miramar College (CA), has been selected as a 2010
Fulbright Scholar. She is scheduled to visit Russia, where she will share experiences about
the U.S. community college system and explore potential partnerships with Russian
institutions.

Susan Fliss is Associate Librarian of Harvard College (MA) for Research, Teaching and
Learning.

Blanche Sanders has been promoted to Dean of University Libraries at Alcorn State
University (MS).

Gretchen Bataille has resigned as President of the University of North Texas.
1995
Nancy Cooley is now President of the Open Campus, Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Frederick Law is Executive Vice President, Provost and Dean of Faculty at Lakeland
Community College (OH).
2000
Michael Hemphill has been named Provost and Dean of the College at Centenary College
(LA).
Marilyn Hopkins is now serving as Provost and Chief Operating Officer at Touro
University–California.

John Beehler has been named the inaugural Provost and Vice President for Academic
Excellence and Student Success at the University of North Texas at Dallas, a new institution
that is the first public university in Dallas.
Michael Harris has been appointed Chancellor of Indiana University at Kokomo.
2002
Janet Evelyn-Dorsey has been named Dean of the School of Business at Ivy Tech
Community College of Indiana–East Central.
Stuart Sigman, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Naropa University (CO), has also
been named Provost of the university.
Wendy Paterson is now Dean of the School of Education at Saint John Fisher College
(NY).
Paul Starkey has been appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at
Pennsylvania College of Technology.
2006
Adrienne Bloss, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and General Education at Roanoke
College (VA), has been named an ACE Fellow for the 2010–2011 academic year by the
American Council on Education.
Jeffrey Frick has been named Dean and Academic Vice President at Saint Norbert College
(WI).
Sandra Haynes, Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Metropolitan State College
of Denver (CO), has been named an ACE Fellow for the 2010–2011 academic year by the
American Council on Education.
Troy Paino has been named President of Truman State University (MO).
Dereck Rovaris has been named Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic and
Multicultural Affairs at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center–New Orleans.
2007
Larry Thomas is now serving as the inaugural Director of the Frederick Douglass
Distinguished Scholars Program at American University (DC), an honors program for
students dedicated to careers in social justice and uplifting underserved, under-resourced
populations in the United States and abroad.
2008
William Crawley, Associate Dean of the College of Community and Public Services at
Grand Valley State University (MI), has been named an ACE Fellow for the 2010–2011
academic year by the American Council on Education.
2009
Josie Cajipe has been appointed Vice President for Finance and Administrative
Services/Chief Finance Officer at the College of the Marshall Islands.
Kimberly Halbur has been appointed Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs in the School of
Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. She is also an Associate Professor in the
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.
Shortly after completing MDP last summer, Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah accepted a position
as Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of Kwara State University, a new public university in

Frank E. Ross has been named the Associate Provost for Student Success at the University
of North Texas at Dallas.
Kimberly Vess Halbur has been named Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs and
Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in the School of Medicine at the
Medical College of Georgia

Robert Nava is Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at the
University of Texas at El Paso.
Donald Tucker is now Dean of Arts and Sciences at Malone University (OH).
2002
Sarah Perkins is Vice President of Instruction at Cañada College (CA).
2003

this summer.
Harvey Kesselman has been named Provost and Executive Vice President at The Richard
Stockton College of New Jersey, an institution with which he has been associated for over 30
years.
Lynette Olson has been named the permanent Provost and Vice President of Academic
Affairs at Pittsburg State University (KS). Previously, she had been serving in this role on an
interim basis.
Barry Pearson has been appointed Vice President of Academic Affairs at Millikin
University (IL).

Janet Holmgren, President of Mills College (CA), has announced her resignation, effective
at the end of the 2010–2011 academic year.
1999
Mark Schulman, President of Goddard College (VT), has been named President of
Saybrook University (CA).

John Fry, President of Franklin & Marshall College, has been selected as the 14th
President of Drexel University (PA).
Donald Tuski, President of Olivet College (MI), has been named President of Maine
College of Art.
2004
Rita Cavin, has been named the Howard Cherry Outstanding Community College
Administrator of the Year. This award is given to those whose contributions bring
recognition to community colleges in Oregon. Cavin served as President of Linn-Benton
Community College from 2003 until her retirement in January 2010.
2007
Claudette Williams, President of Edward Waters College (FL), has announced her
resignation, effective May 15, 2010.
2008
Jeff Fowler, Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, will be retiring after
what he described as “three wonderful years” in his current role and 32 years of military
service. He plans to transition to the civilian work sector.
2009
