THE SPANISH MISSION

The Spanish Missions in Texas comprise

a series of religious outposts established

by Spanish Catholic Dominicans, Jesuits,

and Franciscans to spread the Christian

doctrine among the local Native

Americans, but with the added benefit of

giving Spain a toehold in the frontier land.

AUSTIN

Austin is the capital of the state of

Texas. Austin is a beautiful city with

hills, valleys and lakes running through

the city. Austin has a current

population of over 700,000 and over

1,000,000 in the metropolitan area.

INSTITUTE OF TEXAN

CUTLURE The Institute of Texan Cultures museum is home to more than 50,000 square feet of exhibits telling the story of how this amazing state came to be what it is today.

THE ALAMO Originally named Mission San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo served as home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly seventy years. Construction began on the present site in 1724. In 1793, Spanish officials secularized San Antonio's five missions and distributed their lands to remaining Indian residents. These men and women continued to farm the fields, once the mission's but now their own, and participated in the growing community of San Antonio.

THE RIVER WALK The San Antonio River Walk is a public park open 365 days a year, lined with individual businesses composed of restaurants, hotel, attractions and more.Mexican food QUESADILLAS!!! Dicious!!!

Anderson High School began in

1889, when a high school was

added to Robertson Hill School

(itself established in 1884), the

city's first school for African-

American children. It was

located in the same building as

the lower school. In 1907 the high school became independent.

BROKEN SPOKE

The Broken Spoke is Texas' most definitive dance hall A Classic Texas Honky-Tonk; dance instruction.

Group on Mexico and served on the advisory boards of Columbia Law

School and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern

California. She was appointed to President Clinton’s Advisory

Committee on Trade Policy & Negotiations from 1994-1996.

Ambassador Martinez has been a popular speaker at educational

institutions around the United States, including Harvard Law School,

Yale University, the University of Notre Dame, Stanford, and her alma

mater, the University of Texas.

Ambassador Martinez was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Salvador and

Marina Martinez. She earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at

Austin, and a LL.B. from Columbia Law School.

Vilma Martinez Ambassador ARGENTINA

Term of Appointment: 07/24/2009 to present

Vilma Martinez was confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to Argentina by the U.S. Senate on July 24,

2009. Enriching Ambassador Martinez’s experience is a history of continued public service on

numerous non-profit boards. She served as Chairman of The Board of Regents of The University

of California from 1984-1986, and was a Regent from 1976-1990. She previously served as a

board member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and as a member of the Council on

Foreign Relations. Ambassador Martinez chaired the Pacific Council's Study.
