The INTRODUCTION should state your INTENTION WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO EXPRESS?

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR VIEWER TO SEE OR UNDERSTAND?

What is a thumbnail? In design and the creative process, a thumbnail is a rough sketch of an idea. Usually, it shows the format, (size and shape) of the intended art work and drawings of the images that the artist plans to include. If the work is non-representational, an approximation of shapes and forms needed are included. In three-dimensional plates, thumbnails may be sketches of how the artwork will look like in different angles. In photography, thumbnails can be the unedited photos taken during a photo shoot. These pictures are printed small (around 1 ½ X 1 ½ inches). It is also called a contact print.

THUMBNAILS ARE VISUAL IDEAS

A MINIMUM OF 3 THUMBNAILS REQUIRED

Draw your thumbnail the way you imagine it

Annotate your thumbnail by - Describing the work - Explaining how you will achieve your intention through the work - Mentioning the images you will use - Connect how your idea will express meaning - Describing the possible style, format and technique you will use

WHAT IMAGES WILL YOU USE IN YOUR WORK? HOW WILL THESE IMAGES ACHIEVE YOUR INTENTION? (Answer these questions for your annotation0

Based on your thumbnails, study further the images you want to include in your work. These may include variations in rendering the images, different angles to render the images or details of the images. If you are doing portraits, you may want to focus on each facial detail. You can sketch texture of surfaces or specific parts of objects. You will heighten your perception of the images you are working on in this section of the IWB to render the images better in the final plate. Sketching from life is the better option. However, if it will be difficult to get images you want from actual setups, then photos may be used as reference. Remember to cite the source of your photo. If you took the photo, write your name as the source of the photo. YOU NEED TO SHOW AT LEAST 50% OBSERVATIONAL SKETCHES. MINIMUM OF 2 PAGES REQUIRED

COMPOSITIONAL STUDIES With your chosen thumbnails, consider varying the following: Directional flow Positive and negative spaces Focal point, emphasis or center of interest Angle of perspective Orientation Scale and proportion Unity and Harmony Arrangement of images and elements You may use your artist inspiration for your compositional studies. You may use your artist reference as your take off point. The variations in your design will create differences in meaning and in quality. It is possible that one variation of your composition will have a stronger impact than the others. It is also possible that with changes in composition, your work will have an entirely different meaning. Study your compositions and choose the one that serves your artistic goals best.
