Judie Gove, Executive Director

To our staff:You brighten someone's world. It’s said that a single candle is all it takes to banish the darkness. And your inner light is so much brighter! Every day, without even trying, you chase away the “shadows” - with a helping hand, a kind word, an encouraging nod, a smile. The sun and stars shine down on us from above, and you do it right here on earth.

GreenTree at Post Road Awarded With Distinguished Provider Recognition

September 20, 2012 | News

Dementia Care Specialists (DCS) has recognized GreenTree at Post Road in

Indianapolis, IN as the first facility in Indiana to achieve the status of

Distinguished Provider—the highest credential in dementia care.

The award was presented at a special recognition ceremony on

September 19. Senator Patricia Miller, Douglas Hairston of the Mayor's Office of the Front Porch Alliance, and Dana McKee, associate publisher of Seniors Guide, spoke at the ceremony.

The Distinguished Provider program honors facilities’ commitment to the Dementia Capable Care training philosophy and abilities-based approach, which improves function, safety, and quality of life for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).

"When people look for a long-term care facility, they want to select a place that they trust will offer the best and most attentive care for themselves or their loved ones. That trust is exactly what the Distinguished Provider status communicates. It is a seal of approval from industry leaders," said Kim Warchol, OTR/L, Dementia Care Specialists president and founder.

With over 5 million Americans living with ADRD, and many more projected to develop the disease over the coming years, the level of care provided by Distinguished Providers serves as a model by which to elevate the standard of dementia care.

DCS recognizes therapists and care partners as well as facilities that demonstrate the passion, skills, and heart to deliver quality dementia care. Both facilities and individual practitioners are encouraged to apply to the Distinguished Provider program.

A DISTINGUISHED PROVIDER, as recognized by the Crisis Prevention Institute’s (CPI) Dementia Care Specialists group, is a facility that demonstrates a commitment to high-quality dementia care. This includes compliance with training standards and implementation of CPI’s Dementia Capable Care training and principles. The level of training achieved within the DISTINGUISHED PROVIDER recognition helps to facilitate positive outcomes such as:

• 1) Promoting the highest possible level of function for those at all stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).

• 2) Maximizing and maintaining health and safety for those at all stages of ADRD.

• 3) Maximizing and maintaining quality of life and dignity.

To receive this special recognition, the facility must meet certain application requirements and demonstrate ongoing, audited compliance to training standards. Distinguished Provider Dementia Care Specialists
