Graphic Novels Library Malta is a group that is working to have a physical library whose collection consists of Graphic Novels / Comics and Pop culture related books. Its mission statement is: Education through Comics and Pop Culture.

Aim/Goal● To have a physical library whose collection
consists of Graphic Novels / Comics.
● To create a space for the sharing of knowledge
regarding Pop cultural features using different
mediums, offering a space for talks, discussions,
presentations and events that promote Pop
Culture and other Visual Arts.
Purpose / Description● To promote Literacy and Information Literacy tools
through comics and graphic novels.● To promote cultural awareness in other mediums
such as Films, Arts and Literature.● To have a place where educators or interested
parties can meet and discuss topics of interest that fall under the “Geek” or “Nerd” labels while connecting and engaging people with similar interests.
● To create a space to share thoughts.● A library dedicated to the comic as a medium and
also help all kinds of visual arts through mutual sharing of ideas. The creation of a body of knowledge which is somewhat lacking on the Maltese islands.
Purpose / Description● A resource to teachers, parents, academics, etc....
aiding people to better understand the comics
culture and how they can use comics to educate or
teach skills that are essential to a National Literacy
framework.
● Assist in presentations, discussions and organise
workshops to students and educators alike on how
comics, films, arts, literature can be used as an
educational tool in any related subject.
● To promote local artists who want to collaborate with
us in creating a market for comics, films and art
produced locally.
Why?
● In Malta there is a misconception that either comics
are for children or that they are too violent or sexual.
Some might be, however, like books and movies
there are some very useful comics and graphic novels
that can be used for educational purposes. People
need to be aware of this.
● There is a lack of spaces where people working in
different fields such as the Visual Arts, Literary Arts,
Social environments, etc… can express themselves
and find support for their work.
What we offer?● Graphic Novels Library Malta can be the place for all
that to happen.
● GNLM can be a place where people meet to discuss
the same interests while discovering new ones.
● GNLM offers a collection of comics/graphic novels for
everyone to make use of.
● It can be a place where a new form of education can
take shape.
● Education through the subjects that the students are
more familiar with.
● A place where an emphasis is put on acquiring skills
instead of just knowing things.
Our Service
● A collection of material never collected before on the
Island of Malta. (Graphic Novels + Literature on
different mediums)
● A place for socialising and also an educational
environment.
● Support for presentations, discussions, talks and
public lectures open to the general public or specific
audiences.
Target Audience● Anyone with an interest in Pop-culture.
● Anyone who wants to discover a new medium.
● Anyone interested in learning about new subjects.
