Activity 5 Day Training Course for youth workers, social workers and youth leaders, youth work trainers. Why Over recent years the interest in Graphic Facilitation has grown with many youth workers and trainers realising the benefits this approach could bring to their work. The interest in some Tool Fairs has highlighted this interest and resulted in the Tool Fair in Greece 2013 hosting a training and experiential opportunity which has resulted in a publication called “Graphic Express” with SALTO EUROMED (which will be available later this year). Developing visual literacy competences can greatly support effective communication, promotion, reflection and dissemination of our work and this training course aims to build on the present interest and the opportunities through Erasmus+. Aims To promote improved Visual Literacy through Graphic Facilitation and techniques within the world of international youth work and Erasmus+. Objectives Overcoming barriers to creativity and challenging the myth that you need to be “an artist” to utilise this as a methodology. To explore how Graphic Facilitation can be used to promote youth work activities, engage participants within programmed activities and recording and documenting activities. To explore how visual literacy can support improved communication and overcome language barriers and challenges. To explore and further understand how Graphic Facilitation can increase the efficacy of DEOR of youth activities. Programme & Methodology The five day programme will look to introduce the participants to experiencing the tools and methods available through Graphic Facilitation and use the publication “Graphic Express” as a guide. Participants will be given the opportunity to apply and practice these techniques and explore and share how they can be utilised in our work and in the support of Erasmus+. Participants will look more closely at why graphic facilitation works, how to use graphic recording, practice applying graphic facilitation techniques in leading a process, as well as each participant getting the opportunity to develop their own visual vocabulary and able to identify how to involve others. Expected Outcomes Improved communication through visual literacy Greater understanding and confidence in how they can apply graphic facilitation in their work with young people Confidence in their own ability to draw and communicate visually Valued experiential learning opportunity Greater efficacy in DEOR-related activities in Erasmus+ Contractual and Financial Arrangements The trainer’s fees are calculated following the last suggested SALTO fee calculation system. For the last TCP period the trainer’s fee per trainer for delivery is recommended 280 Euros per day x 5 training days + 3 days at the same rate (840 Euros) for preparation, evaluation and reporting = 2240 Euros. Total for three Trainers = 6720 Euros. In addition to reimbursement of related travel costs. Reporting & Documenting Evaluation Report; including comments and results from post training questionnaire, outcomes, final programme and session information as well as examples of participants’ visual work. Siiri Taimla (Estonia) is an experienced graphic facilitator who has been visually supporting and documenting a vast amount of seminars, trainings, workshops and conferences, most of those in the field of education and culture. She’s also a graphic facilitation trainer and last year was one of the team to deliver the Graphic Facilitation training in the Tool Fair. She’s an initiator of Joonmeedia which is a platform for visual creative tools’ development and solutions – http://www.joonmeedia.ee. She is also working as a teacher in art school and has been working for Estonian Academy of Arts. Mark Taylor (France/UK) has been a freelance trainer and writer since the last century. As editor of two key European youth work magazines (Coyote and Tools for Learning) he has been active in promoting graphic facilitation through appropriate articles and image selection. Learnt a lot from being on the trainer’s team for the Graphic Facilitation course last year in the Tool Fair and is very keen to have another go! Buzz Bury (UK) is a qualified Youth and Community Worker with over 30 years experience, ranging from club and issue-based work to management and staff development and training. He is also an established European Youth Work Trainer with the European Youth Programme and last year was one the team involved in delivering the Graphic Facilitation training as part of the Tool Fair. Why
