• A kitchen staff is pretty much: line/prep cooks, dishwashers, and kitchen manager/chef. A line cook cooks food to order-- if you ordered a steak with fried potatoes at "Applebees", the grill cook would cook the steak and the fry cook(deep fat fryer) would cook the potatoes. A grill cook/fry cook are both line cooks. A prep cook gets the food ready for the line cooks to cook. Such as, cutting/peeling potatoes or cut lettuce for salads to be served ( some line cooks do this is smaller kitchens/restaurants).
