We investigated the question by mixing different amount of hot and cold water, and predicting and finding out the temperatures of each mixture. Our data showed that less cold water then warm water would be warmer than the other mixtures(37.6 degrees C), and that less of the warm water than cold water is colder(29.1 degrees C). This information helped us predict the temperature of 70 ml. of cold water, and 30 ml. of warm water. After the investigation and organization(a table), we answered the questions towards the end of the packet, which helped us conclude our experiment. The data we found proved our hypothesis CLOSE to correct, off by a few degrees.

Getting It Just Right! Adjusting Water Temperature - When combining different amounts of warm and cold water, can you predict and then find out what temperature the mixture will be/is?

GoTemp Spends the Night-How does turning off a heater/air conditioner at night and turning it back on in the morning affect the temperature of a room?

We investigated the question by putting the GoTemp Probe in the science room over the weekend. Our data showed the temperature was mostly shaky but dropped around 6:00 (Right after school let out) and maintained throughout the night. It might have dropped at 6 o'clock and stayed that way all night because we put it in on Friday, which might have meant the school shuts off heat all weekend and heats it up on Friday. This data disproved our hypothesis because we thought it would heat back up in the morning.

Conclusion on Getting It Just Right! The data we collected was the temperature of:

● 25 ml. of cold water was 13.7 degrees C. ● 75 ml. of warm water was 48.1 degrees C.● 50 ml. of cold water was 20.1 degrees C. and

50 ml. of warm water was 38.1 degrees C.● 75 ml. of cold water was 20.2 degrees C.● 25 ml. of warm water was 58.1 degrees C.

The evidence we found was quantitative - the 75 ml. of cold water and 25 ml. of warm water was 29.1 degrees C. That measurements of the water was very close to the 70 ml. of cold water, and 30 ml. of warm water. So, we estimated close to that measurement. More evidence is that when we poured out the water and measured the 70 and 30 ml. of cold and warm water, it was 24.2 degrees C. This proved our hypothesis of 31 degres C. wrong.

Conclusion-GoTemp Spends the Night

The data we collected was the temperature steadily dropped during class hours, then went down sharply at 3 o'clock. The temperature decreased slowly throughout the night and never went back up in the morning. Overall, the temperature started at 23.2 degrees Celsius (74 Fahrenheit) and dropped to 20.3 (69 Fahrenheit)in 24 hours.

Since the temperature never went back up in the morning, we concluded that the temperature probably would have stayed about the same throughout the weekend. The heater might be turned off weekend to save power since almost nobody is at the school on weekends. The first part of our hypothesis was right because we predicted the heater would turn off and the temperature would drop during the night, which it did. We also predicted the temperature would rise in the morning when the heater kicked back in, but our evidence disproved this.
