2. PRIVACY IN 1984 In the novel 1984 privacy is almost non
existent. No matter where you are in Oceania there are cameras or
people watching, listening, and reading what you do, say, and
write. There are several telescreens in all rooms, cameras on the
streets, at work, in restaurants, in bathrooms etc. Although it is
unknown if the Party is watching at any particular time the fear of
potentially being caught is often enough to make the population
behave and conform to the rules of the party. Children can be
selected and trained to monitor adults actions, they become known
as Junior Spies for Big Brother. The Thought Police, administered
by the Party, are assigned to to search for, monitor and arrest
members of society who could potentially challenge their authority
or disrupt the status quo. If you are believed to even think
unapproved thoughts you can be arrested with thoughtcrime. If you
want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself
