Alex Inkster George Ezra music video analysis The song that I have picked to analyse is Budapest by George Ezra. This song is about giving the things that you don’t have away for someone. From looking at the video, I noticed that there are some characteristics of a soft rock that are featured within the music video. For example, there camera shots that are used are quite tight and there are a lot of close ups. Also there are some thought beats that are used to the beat of the song, which are used to show different characters within the music video, that are normally used in a soft rock music video, these are, the artist playing an guitar, a woman, a group of friends e.c.t. All of these types of shots are used to let the audience know that it is a soft rock music video. I have also noticed that the tone/pace of the music video are also slow which is another characteristic of a soft rock music video. From looking at the music video, I have noticed that there is a link between the lyrics of the song and the visuals that are used within the music video. However the relationship are not directly linked towards the lyrics, but they are implied with the visuals that are used. For example, during the music video the lyrics say “my many artefacts’, and there is a shot of a man who is holding a vase. This could be interpreted in two different ways, the first is that the vase has ashes in it and this could mean that these ashes could be interpreted as the artefact. The second meaning is that this vase has noting in it but it is a valuable vase so it could be considered as an artefact. Because of this it wll make the audience think more about the lyrics of the song and the maning behind it. Also from looking at the music video, I have also noticed that there is a link between the music and the visuals that are used. This link is between the pace of the pace and volume of the music and the visuals that are shown. For example, when the music is low key, there would be a shot of everyone stood still with only one person moving and when the music is high key there would

George Ezra music video analysis

The song that I have picked to analyse is Budapest by George Ezra.

For example, when the music is low key, there would be a shot of everyone

stood still with only one person moving and when the music is high key there would be more than one person moving within the shot. This will have been done to represent the change with each individual person.

I have also noticed that within the music video, that there are some close ups of the artist. these close ups will have been used to establish who this song is done by, this will have also been done to advertise the artist as this will be advertising the album, which would make people want to buy it. However as this artist is fairly new, it was difficult to spot a motif for this artist, however, I did notice that this artist is dressed very formal throught his music videos so this could be condiered as a motif. This will have been done to let the audiacne know that his music is more formal.

After looking at the music video, I noticed that there is very little notion of looking throughout the music video, but there is some. For example during the music

video, there is a stereotypical girl who looks like she is wearing a beauty contest dress. This could be considered as an element of notion of looking. This

will have been used to draw male audiences to this music video as this would be more targeted toward males. By doing this, more males will want to watch this music video.

Throughout this music video, I noticed that there are some intertextual references that are made within the music video. These references will have been made to relate to another media text and by doing this it would make the audience relate more with the music video and the lyrics that are used. For example, in this music video, it is crowded with lots of different people, and this could be a referencing “where’s wally”. By doing this, it would make the audience relate in that everyone is unique.

I think that from observing the music video and listening to the lyrics that are used, I think that this music video is amplification. This is because not all of the lyrics that are the exact same as the visuals that are used in the music video, but they are implies on the type of scenes that are used in the music video. For example the meaning of this song is about giving the things you don’t have away, and there is a shot that is used where everyone is passing around different objects, and this could represent the meaning of the song.
