Sophie Boston G324

She is a singer-song writer, guitarist and

pianist.

She is only 22 years old, born in 1992 in Bath,

England, so she doesn’t have as much history

as other artists, however in her young age

she has already made a name for herself.

The genre of her music is mainly folk and

indie.

The main instruments in her music (which

she often plays herself) is the piano, guitar

and drums.

Aplin is one of two children and was brought up in a council house in a small village near Chippenham.

She was given her first guitar at the age of 11 by her parents, and says her musical inspirations include Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.

Gabrielle went to Sheldon School, where she did well but always felt like she didn’t belong.

She then went onto Bath College to study music, where she joined many of the College’s music societies.

Aplin first made herself known by uploading

cover videos to the popular music platform

YouTube. Her most popular videos include

her original composition "Home", and covers

of "The Liar and the Lighter" by You Me at

Six, "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry and

"Forget You" by Cee Lo Green.

She has described her music as "very family

orientated, very personal".

In 2010 Aplin performed on her local radio

station BBC Wiltshire.

First EP – ‘Acoustic’ – September 2010

On 29 February 2012, Aplin announced that she had signed to Parlophone. She began recording her debut album in March, and expected it to be out in early 2013. Her first major label single Please Don't Say You Love Mewas set for release on 10 February 2013. Aplin was working with the record producer Mike Spencer.

On 12 December 2012, Aplin announced that the title of her debut album would be English Rain. In addition, she also unveiled its artwork and release date of 29 April 2013. However, the album's release date was later confirmed as 13 May 2013.

English Rain charted at #2 on both the UK and Scottish album charts, while reaching #11 in Ireland.

Aplin was confirmed as the soundtrack to the John Lewis 2012

Christmas television advertisement, covering Frankie Goes to

Hollywood's The Power of Love. In an interview, she said "I was

worried people might hate me because they were so attached to

the original single. But I've since been in touch with Holly

Johnson, and he said some lovely things about my take on his

song."
